In their own words
FastBack
FastBack is a free, open-source Minecraft mod for incremental world backups: snapshots save changed parts rather than the entire world. Backups can be stored locally, on a Git server, or on a network volume without a Git server. They can run when a world shuts down or after Minecraft autosaves. Restoring a snapshot creates a copy of the selected world, leaving the current files untouched. Snapshot pruning and retention policies help manage backups, which can also include mod JARs and configuration files. FastBack works with Minecraft clients and dedicated servers on Linux, Mac, and Windows. It requires native Git and Git LFS to be installed and available on Minecraft's process PATH. The project describes it as intended for worlds up to about 5GB and recommends GitHub remotes only for smaller worlds under 500MB because of GitHub size restrictions. Documentation links to CurseForge for downloads and Discord for questions and help installing native Git. FastBack is distributed under GNU GPL version 2.
Simple Backup
Simple Backup is a free, open-source utility for Minecraft Java server worlds. It schedules automatic backups at configurable intervals and can save them as ZIP archives, TAR.LZ4 archives, or direct directory copies. Backup jobs run asynchronously, and automatic runs can pause when no players are online. Configuration can cap the number of retained backups and stop a new backup when available disk space is too low. Server operators can start backups manually with commands for a general run, ZIP, LZ4, or directory output; the required permission level is configurable and defaults to level 4. Backups are stored in a `backup` folder in the game directory unless an absolute system path is configured. The mod runs only on the server, requires Fabric API, and lists Fabric and Quilt loader support. ZIP uses deflate level 5, while LZ4 files use `.tar.lz4` and need two extraction steps. Support is provided through a GitHub issue tracker.
