| Deployment | FiloDB is deployed as standalone processes in a cluster and requires Java, Cassandra, Kafka, Rust, and a C compiler to build; SBT is also listed as a build prerequisite. | The installation guide describes Linux, macOS, and Windows support; it recommends macOS and Windows for development and debugging. |
| Storage | Columnar compression and off-heap memory management help it store substantial data in memory while reducing garbage collection. | It uses column-based storage and describes data compression, automatic partitioning, and LSM-based storage techniques. |
| Use cases | Documented uses include operational metrics, distributed tracing storage, ad-hoc application-metric debugging, and real-time event storage and querying. | The project describes monitoring and observability, IoT, and operations data analysis as typical application scenarios. |

In their own words
FiloDB
FiloDB is a free, Apache-2.0 open-source database for distributed, real-time time-series, event, and operational data. It is designed to ingest and query many millions of time series, sharding data across processes with distributed querying. Columnar compression and off-heap memory management support substantial in-memory storage while reducing garbage collection. PromQL is available through an HTTP API and command-line interface; the README describes support as about 60%. Histograms are a first-class column type, with the project reporting possible compression and query-speed improvements of up to two orders of magnitude. Typical ingestion uses Apache Kafka, while the Gateway accepts Influx Line Protocol over TCP. Grafana can connect through the Prometheus-compatible API, and Cassandra is identified as the persistence store. Deployment uses clustered standalone processes and requires Java, Cassandra, Kafka, Rust, a C compiler, and SBT to build.
openGemini
openGemini is a free, open-source distributed database for storing and analyzing time-series data, including metrics, logs, and traces. Its stated application areas include monitoring and observability, IoT, and operations analysis. The system uses an MPP architecture with ts-sql, ts-meta, and ts-store components that can be scaled independently. Column-based storage, compression, automatic partitioning, and LSM-based techniques are part of its storage design. A built-in AI analysis platform provides real-time anomaly detection. Query options include InfluxQL, PromQL, and GeminiQL; ingestion methods include InfluxDB Line Protocol, Apache Arrow Flight, and Prometheus remote_write. It also provides HTTP APIs for expression and metadata queries and remote reads and writes. Deployment is supported on Linux, macOS, and Windows, as well as through Docker and Kubernetes. Authentication is disabled by default and must be enabled in configuration. PromQL compatibility covers 90% of Prometheus functions and operators, with some unsupported.
