Overview

FirstLook Engagement Analytics is a game-focused platform that connects in-game telemetry with player signals from outside the game. It suits indie studios that want analytics and player engagement tools in one system. Its free tier is a useful starting point, but the paid plans make costs and event limits important decisions.

Key features

Native Unreal and Unity SDKs support session tracking and custom events, while integrations bring in Discord activity, Steam playtime and API-submitted events. Identity sync across Steam, Discord, Epic and console accounts helps studios associate those signals with player profiles. That breadth is valuable for teams whose audiences move between a game and its community channels, but less compelling for teams seeking only basic game telemetry.

Dashboards cover players, Discord, Steam, visits, sessions, custom events, retention cohorts and funnels. Teams can segment by playtime, retention cohort, source, country, custom attributes and tags, then export segments as CSV or through an API. API ingestion can stream warehouse events, making the product more useful to studios that need to bring analytics into their own data workflows.

Automated messages can be triggered by events or rules and delivered by email or Discord DM. Counter and duration events can also support filters, segments, triggers, quests, rewards and Discord roles, linking measurement to live operations. Retention, cohort and funnel analysis are supported; in-game messaging and attribution are marked “Soon” on Engagement Pro, so teams needing those capabilities now should not treat them as available features.

The security policy states that data is encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest with AES-256. FirstLook uses managed services from Render and Google Cloud Platform. Community Support is included on Core plans, while Pro plans include Slack Support.

Pricing

FirstLook has a free plan and paid plans billed monthly per game. That per-game term matters for studios running several titles: the cost can scale with the number of games, not just the size of the team.

Forever Free: Free. It allows 100k player profiles, up to 500 playtesters and 1,000 emails/month. This is the sensible entry point for a small studio exploring player profiles and email engagement, but the profile, tester and email caps limit its suitability for ongoing work at larger scale.
Analytics Core: 149.00 USD per month, billed monthly per game. It includes 1M events, session tracking, custom events, filtering, Events API and account linking. This is the clearest fit for teams that need paid telemetry and analytics without Pro’s advanced engagement tier; the monthly event allowance is a constraint as tracking volume grows.
Engagement Pro: 3499.00 USD per month, billed monthly per game. It includes 10M events, journeys, data ingestion, LiveOps support and funnels. In-game messaging, cohorts and attribution are marked “Soon.” The price is a major step up from Core, so it is best considered by studios that need its larger event allowance and LiveOps-oriented capabilities, rather than teams looking primarily for dashboards.

Platforms

FirstLook supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows, as well as an API. Its Unreal and Unity SDKs provide session tracking and custom events, while API ingestion and exports give studios another route to connect their data workflows.

Who it's for

FirstLook is aimed at studio founders and indie game developers; the company reports working with over 50 studios. It is most relevant to teams that want to connect player analytics with Discord or Steam activity and then use segments for messaging or live operations. A team that needs only playtest recruitment or lightweight survey-based testing may find a dedicated playtesting platform a closer fit.

Pros and cons

Pro: Player profiles combine game telemetry with Discord, Steam and account identity signals, giving studios a cross-channel view of players.
Pro: Segmentation, exports, messaging and live-ops uses for counter and duration events let teams act on analytics as well as report on it.
Pro: The free plan has explicit profile, playtester and email allowances, giving small teams a defined way to start.
Con: Paid plans are priced per game, and the jump from 149.00 USD per month for Core to 3499.00 USD per month for Pro is substantial.
Con: Core's 1M events and the free plan's profile, tester and email caps may constrain studios as their activity grows.
Con: Several Pro capabilities— in-game messaging, cohorts and attribution—are marked “Soon,” so the plan does not yet promise them as current features.

Alternatives

For teams comparing adjacent tools, see Game Analytics Software, Game Playtesting Platforms and Game Testing Software.

Antidote is a freemium option with a 14-day free trial plan for one playtest, up to five community players and 20 survey questions, making it worth considering when a short, structured playtest is the priority.
PlayProbe offers a free plan for one game with three tests, 20 sessions per test, pre- and post-surveys, and a results dashboard; choose it when survey-based testing matters more than connected analytics and engagement.
Userplay offers a free Indie plan with pay-as-you-go terms, up to 10 seats, unlimited playtests and up to 1,000 players, which suits teams focused on running playtests.
Go Testify has a free Essential plan with unlimited playtesting and one active project, an alternative for studios that want playtesting and insight reports within a single project.
Game Tester is another option in the game-testing category.
Indieable has a free-forever web plan for recruiting and screening testers and managing playtest feedback, a better match when those tasks are the focus.
PlaytestCloud is a paid option with a Professional Basic plan at 1025.00 EUR per month, invoiced annually, including 120 Video Tokens/year and unlimited users and seats; consider it when that playtesting model fits your needs.
Viewport.gg charges 11.50 USD per accepted session and has no subscription, project minimum or per-seat fees, which may suit teams that prefer session-based costs.

Verdict

FirstLook is a strong fit for indie studios that want player profiles, game and community signals, segmentation and engagement workflows in one platform. Its free plan gives small teams room to start, and Core provides a defined paid step for analytics. Choose it for that connected workflow; look elsewhere if per-game pricing, Core’s event cap or the sharp Pro price increase outweigh the value of its live-ops and messaging focus.
