In their own words
Fivetran Database Replication
Fivetran Database Replication copies data from databases into cloud data warehouses, databases, online data platforms, and data lakes. It is designed for large workloads and offers fully managed SaaS deployment or hybrid deployment, where selected pipelines run in the customer's secure environment under Fivetran's cloud control plane. Replication methods include log-based, timestamp-based, trigger-based, and log-free change data capture. Listed sources include Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Db2 for i, MariaDB, MySQL, SAP ERP, and Cosmos DB. Updates are replicated incrementally in merge batches, with sync intervals configurable from every minute to every 24 hours. Users can exclude schemas or tables, and usage pricing counts inserted and updated rows but not unchanged rows or initial bulk loads. The free plan is listed at free, with limits for connection and activation rows and model runs. Database connectors include a 14-day trial with free historical sync. Enterprise connectors and hybrid deployment are limited to Enterprise and Business Critical plans.
TiCDC
TiCDC is a free, open-source, self-hosted tool for replicating incremental data changes from TiDB. It captures TiKV change logs, sorts the changes, and exports row-based data to systems including TiDB, MySQL-compatible databases, Kafka, Amazon S3, GCS, Azure Blob Storage, and NFS. Recommended Kafka formats include Canal-JSON, Avro, and Debezium. Filters can select databases, tables, DMLs, and DDLs, while the Open API can check task status, change task configuration, and create or delete tasks. TiCDC supports replication between TiDB clusters for disaster recovery, with second-level RPO and minute-level RTO, as well as bidirectional replication for multi-active deployments. It can be deployed with a new cluster or added to an existing one; production guidance recommends at least two instances. The system has no single point of failure and allows nodes to be added or removed dynamically. Delivery is at least once, so failures can lead to repeated statements or Kafka messages.
