In their own words
Flameshot
Flameshot is free, open-source screenshot software for Linux, macOS, and Windows. Its workflow is to select part of the screen, add annotations if needed, and save the image to a computer. Editing tools include arrows, text, highlighting, drawing, shapes, counters, solid color boxes, and blur or pixelation. Users can customize the interface color, button selection, keyboard shortcuts, and image-saving behavior. Export formats include PNG, TIFF, WebP, and additional Qt image formats. The command-line interface can run commands without opening the graphical interface and supports scripting and key bindings. Flameshot can upload images to Imgur, alerts users before upload, and allows deletion afterward. The project warns that an uploaded image is no longer under the user's control and recommends pixelation or a filled rectangle rather than blur for privacy protection. Downloads include 64-bit Windows installer and portable versions, macOS installation through Homebrew or a DMG, and Linux AppImage, package manager, Snapcraft, or Flathub options. Official documentation covers installation, troubleshooting, configuration, platform help, command-line options, and privacy.
Greenshot

Users can annotate and highlight screenshots, obscure selected portions, and extract text with OCR. Images can be saved, printed, copied, emailed, sent to Office, or uploaded to photo sites such as Flickr or Picasa. Listed export formats are PNG and JPEG. Greenshot is intended for people who create screenshots, including project managers, developers, technical writers, and testers. The Windows plan is listed at free, and an optional cost contribution is $1.99 as a one-time purchase. The latest stable Windows release listed is version 1.3.315, dated 20 Mar 2026. Source code is available in Git repositories. Windows 8 users may be prompted to install.NET 3.5, though they can skip that installation.
