In their own words
FlowPaper
FlowPaper converts PDFs into mobile-friendly interactive flipbooks and web publications. Its browser viewer compresses graphics and loads only the pages currently visible. The desktop publisher adds links, images, galleries and video from YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia or self-hosted locations. Publications can be hosted on FlowPaper Cloud or self-hosted; the company says self-hosting has no publication-count limit. A JavaScript API exposes methods and events for integrating the viewer into an application or webpage. FlowPaper supports page-by-page Google Analytics tracking, while higher plans list heatmap and engagement analytics. The Free plan costs nothing and includes cloud hosting, FlowPaper branding and publishing for 90 days. Zine costs $75, paid once, Creative costs $85 a month, and Enterprise costs $995 a year. Cloud publication quotas vary by plan: Zine has 50 and Creative has 75, while the services-account FAQ lists 500 for Team and Enterprise accounts. The listed platforms include web, desktop, mobile and self-hosted options.
PubCoder
PubCoder is a desktop authoring tool for creating interactive digital publications and exporting them as apps, HTML, or ebooks. Authors can connect click and touch gestures to animations, videos, and sounds without code. Export formats include native iOS and Android apps, EPUB 3 Fixed Layout, HTML5, XPUB, and Kindle Format 8. Accessibility features include semantic metadata, image descriptions, screen-reader support, and read-aloud tools. The editor integrates with Adobe InDesign, After Effects through Bodymovin, YouTube, Vimeo, Unsplash, The Noun Project, and Google Fonts. For distribution, SHELF is a white-label library platform for web and native apps. Its XPUB format encrypts content files with custom DRM, and downloaded content can be used offline; SHELF also provides access and interaction analytics. The Standard plan costs €99/yr plus VAT if needed and includes unlimited publications and all features for macOS and Windows. The 15-day trial includes all features, requires registration, and does not require a credit card. Paid subscriptions can be installed on multiple owned computers but used on only one at a time.
