| Durable execution | Flyte 2 can recover from infrastructure failures including OOM kills, preempted nodes and disappearing GPUs. | Prefect describes durable execution features including state tracking, automatic retries, caching, and recovery from failures. |
| Integrations | The Flyte site lists integrations including Apache Spark, Ray, PyTorch Elastic, BigQuery, Snowflake, Weights & Biases, OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph, CrewAI, Pydantic AI, MLflow, Dask, and Databricks. | The integrations directory lists AWS, Azure, Bitbucket, Dask, Databricks, dbt, Docker, GCP, GitHub, Kubernetes, Slack, Snowflake, and other integrations. |
| Plan limits | The Team plan includes a 25,000 action-per-run fanout limit, 1,000 concurrent actions, and one cluster; Enterprise lists 50,000+ actions per run and 3+ clusters. | The Hobby plan includes 2 users, 1 workspace, 5 deployments, 500 minutes per month of Serverless credits, and 7 days of run retention. |
| Purpose | Flyte 2 is a durable AI runtime for workloads involving training, serving, and agents. | Prefect is a workflow orchestration platform for data, machine learning, and agents, with workflows written as plain Python. |
| Security | Union.ai states that its data plane runs inside the customer's cloud and that workflow inputs, outputs, logs, code, and reports do not pass through its control plane. | Prefect states that it is SOC 2 Type II certified and GDPR compliant, and describes itself as HIPAA ready. |
| Support | The Team plan lists one business day Sev 1 support, while Enterprise lists custom white-glove support. | The pricing comparison lists Community as Hobby's support channel, and the homepage says every enterprise plan has a 30-minute response SLA. |

In their own words
Flyte
Flyte 2 is a durable runtime for AI workloads involving training, serving and agents. Users write workflows as plain Python async functions and use a TaskEnvironment to declare images, resources, secrets and retry policies. Flyte resumes from failed tasks and can recover from out-of-memory kills, preempted nodes and disappearing GPUs. Branches, loops and runtime decisions support dynamic workflows and agents. Native serving integrations include Streamlit, FastAPI, vLLM, SGLang and Ollama, with replicas able to scale to zero when idle. Listed integrations also cover Apache Spark, Ray, PyTorch Elastic, BigQuery, Snowflake, Weights & Biases, OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph, CrewAI, Pydantic AI, MLflow, Dask and Databricks. It runs locally with a devbox or on a customer cluster. Union.ai says customer-cloud data planes keep workflow inputs, outputs, logs, code and reports outside its control plane. Flyte is available as free Apache 2.0 open-source software.
Prefect
Prefect is a workflow orchestration platform for data, machine learning and agent workflows written in Python. Its open-source framework lets users add decorators to existing Python code to create workflows, without a rigid DAG structure or custom DSL. Execution features include state tracking, automatic retries, caching and recovery from failures. For observability, Prefect provides run timelines, logs and alerts for failures, missed SLAs and late runs. Workflows can run on cron or event-driven schedules, support backfills, and be triggered by webhooks, cloud events or state changes. Deployment choices include managed serverless execution, hybrid execution in a customer’s infrastructure, and self-hosted orchestration. In hybrid mode, workers connect through outbound-only connections while code and data stay in the customer’s infrastructure; Prefect Cloud hosts the control plane and metadata. The free Hobby plan is limited to two users, five deployments, 500 minutes of monthly serverless credits and seven days of run retention. Paid plans start at $100/mo.
