Overview

Framer combines page design, responsive layouts, CMS content, SEO tools, analytics and managed hosting. Its AI agent can produce editable pages, sections, copy and visuals directly in a project, giving teams material to refine rather than a fixed site output. Blogging is supported, and published pages can be indexed by search engines unless set to noindex.

The service also supports custom components, integrations and code-based extensions. Framer components can be reused in other React environments, but the site itself cannot be exported as code. Framer has selling tools and video hosting, but no e-commerce, so it is not the choice for a built-in online shop.

Key features

Design and team workflow

Real-time collaboration, branching, staging and previews give teams ways to work on changes and review them before publication. That makes Framer more compelling for shared site work than for a solo user seeking only a basic publishing tool. Workspaces without a subscription are limited to three editors, so larger teams need a paid plan.

Integration guides cover Meta Pixel, Typeform, webhooks, Clay, Loom, Trustpilot, Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. Third-party plugins add tools for content generation, asset management, integrations and automation. Framer states that it has ISO 27001 compliance, completed a SOC 2 Type 2 audit, and is committed to GDPR and CCPA compliance; it also requires TLS 1.2 or higher, uses HSTS, and conducts penetration tests, code reviews and security scanning.

Pricing

Framer uses a freemium model, with a free trial also available. The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes 500 AI credits to try, a free Framer domain, 1 GB bandwidth, design pages, 10 CMS collections, 1,000 pages, 5 MB file uploads and one free locale. It is a substantial way to explore site building, but the domain is Framer-branded rather than custom, and the three-editor workspace cap limits team use.

Basic costs 10.00 USD per month, billed per month. It adds a free custom domain, 50 GB bandwidth, built-in SEO and a localization add-on, but includes only two CMS collections. It suits smaller sites that need their own domain and basic publishing capacity.

Pro costs 30.00 USD per month, billed per month. Its 10 CMS collections and 100 GB bandwidth support larger sites, while redirects, staging and branching with previews make it better suited to teams managing ongoing changes. Enterprise has custom limits and custom pricing. Basic and Pro list monthly billing; the annual-billing note of $10/mo applies to the starting paid price.

Platforms

The Framer Canvas requires an internet connection and works on Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS in a recent Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge browser. Desktop apps are available for macOS and Windows. Published sites support macOS, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS, subject to supported browser versions. The Canvas requirement rules out offline editing.

Who it's for

Framer suits design-focused teams building content-led or portfolio sites that want responsive visual control, CMS, SEO and hosting in one workflow. Its collaboration tools and React component reuse offer room to extend team projects. It is less suitable for commerce sites, offline-first work, or anyone who needs to export a site’s code.

Pros and cons

Pros: Editable AI-generated site elements can be shaped in the project; managed hosting, CMS, SEO and analytics sit alongside design; branching, staging and previews support team review.
Cons: A custom domain requires a paid plan; free workspaces stop at three editors; Canvas requires internet access; code export and e-commerce are absent.

Alternatives

For a different site-building approach, consider GoDaddy Websites + Marketing, with a free plan and monthly email-marketing allowances in its Basic and Commerce plans. WordPress.com offers a free plan with 1 GB storage and unlimited pages and posts, which may suit readers prioritizing a free publishing option.

Duda is a paid alternative with a Basic plan at 19.00 USD per month billed annually and one included published project. For other category-specific choices, browse Portfolio Website Builders or AI Website Builders.

Verdict

Choose Framer if your priority is design control paired with shared site-building, CMS and managed hosting. Its free tier is useful for exploring the workflow, but a custom domain means paying, and the online-only Canvas and lack of code export are meaningful constraints. Look elsewhere for built-in commerce, offline editing or a portable codebase.
