In their own words
Freecost
Freecost gives restaurant kitchens a shared way to track ingredient prices, recipe costs, and menu margins through Android and web access. It calculates food-cost percentages for recipes and menu items, while the ingredient database records vendors, pack sizes, and allergens. Users can scan delivery invoices; extracted prices update ingredient costs and affected recipes. Inventory counts work offline and include dated dollar valuations, and waste logging provides weekly cost trends. The tools also include printable recipe and build cards, order guides, prep lists, and support for multiple kitchens on one account. CSV and Excel imports are included. The Android app supports full offline mode, including inventory counting. The free plan is listed at free and includes unlimited recipes, menu items, and ingredients, with no per-seat pricing or usage cap. Freecost does not include labor scheduling, purchase-order approval workflows, vendor management across several locations, or catering event and BEO management.
reciProfity
reciProfity is cloud-hosted software for food costing, inventory control, and recipe management. It calculates recipe costs from ingredient prices and yield data, then suggests selling prices based on food-cost targets. Inventory reports cover on-hand stock, actual-versus-ideal variance, sales mix, and menu engineering information; offline mode protects data if Wi-Fi is lost during counts. Its recipe database handles nested prep and serving recipes, supplier ingredients, and more than 200 units of measurement with conversions. Integrated USDA nutritional data supports recipe nutrition calculations, and recipes can be tagged with allergens from ingredients. The system imports sales-mix files from POS systems that export XLS files, and lists integrations including Caterease, QuickBooks Online, Passport Accounting, Sage 100, PlateIQ, iControl, Accardis, and Upserve. Plans listed are Starter at $49 a month, limited to 10 recipes; Core at $82 a month; Operations at $99 a month; and Multi-Unit at $124 a month. A 30-day trial with the full Analyzer plan and support is offered.
