Overview

Freedom is a distraction blocker that can restrict apps, websites or internet access across a user’s devices. It suits people who want one focus routine to follow them between computers and phones, but the platform-specific gaps and paid scheduling features matter if your setup depends on exceptions or automation.

Blocking sessions and schedules sync across supported devices, including Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android and Chromebook. Freedom also offers focus audio, says it does not track browsing or app use, and provides human in-app support across platforms.

Key features

Blocking with device-specific trade-offs

Freedom can block chosen apps or websites, or cut off internet access. On Mac and Windows, Website Exceptions let users keep specified sites accessible while blocking others—a useful distinction for work that depends on a few approved web tools. That control does not extend to mobile: iOS and Android lack website exceptions, and Chromebook lacks both app blocking and website exceptions. Chromebook users should therefore check whether its remaining blocking options fit their needs before relying on it across devices.

Schedules, sessions and sound

Advance and recurring schedules start sessions automatically, while Locked Mode prevents ending a session early. Both are Premium features, so the free plan is better for people willing to start sessions manually. Premium also removes session limits. Focus audio includes ambient sounds and exclusive tracks from Brain.fm; Premium Perks add partner offers focused on productivity, wellness and intentional living.

Pricing

Freedom is freemium, with a 7-day trial and paid plans from $3.33/mo on an annual basis. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and covers app, website or internet blocking, multi-device sync and custom blocklists, but has limited features and does not include scheduling, Locked Mode or unlimited sessions. Website Exceptions are available on Mac and Windows only.

Premium (yearly) costs 3.33 USD per year, billed yearly with a stated 40% saving. It adds scheduling, advance and recurring sessions, Locked Mode, unlimited sessions and Premium Perks to Free. It is the fit for regular users who want automatic routines at the lowest stated paid rate. Premium (monthly) costs 8.99 USD per month and includes the same features, making it the more flexible option for users who do not want an annual billing term.

Forever costs 99.50 USD per once: one payment, with no subscription or recurring charges, and the same Premium features. It may suit someone committed to long-term use who prefers not to renew, but the yearly plan is the lower-cost way to start. No seat or session quota applies to Premium sessions; Free remains limited-feature.

Platforms

Freedom supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows. Its cross-device sessions also include Chromebook, but that platform does not support app blocking or website exceptions. iOS and Android do not support website exceptions, so users who need fine-grained site allowlists should plan around desktop use.

Who it's for

Freedom is strongest for people working or studying across several supported devices who want blocking to sync and prefer scheduled, recurring routines. Premium is the practical choice for those who want sessions to start automatically or be difficult to abandon. It is less compelling for users who need app blocking on Chromebook or website exceptions on mobile, or who only need occasional manual blocking and can stay within Free’s limits.

Pros and cons

Pro: Synced sessions and schedules can keep a focus routine consistent across supported devices.
Pro: Premium combines automatic schedules, Locked Mode and unlimited sessions for users who need structure and commitment.
Pro: Free includes multi-device sync and custom blocklists, giving occasional users a meaningful starting point.
Con: Website Exceptions are limited to Mac and Windows, reducing control on mobile.
Con: Chromebook lacks both app blocking and website exceptions, despite cross-device session support.
Con: Scheduling, Locked Mode and unlimited sessions require a paid plan.

one sec is an alternative for users looking for interventions and time tracking alongside website blocking; its Pro plan is 6.99 USD per month.

Opal may fit users centered on iOS, Android and Mac who want a free plan with one rule, basic timers, soundscapes and app blocking.

FocusMe offers a lifetime option for 249.00 USD per once, for buyers who prefer a one-time payment for core features.

Verdict

Choose Freedom if you want synced blocking across devices and will benefit from Premium’s scheduled, recurring and locked sessions. Its clearest advantage is the combination of cross-device routines and strong session controls; look elsewhere if Chromebook app blocking or mobile website exceptions are essential, or if Free’s manual, limited-feature approach is enough.
