Frontstead Kit vs PadMapper

Frontstead Kit is a free, open-source, MLS-ready development kit for building branded real-estate portals, including golf, waterfront, and other niche lifestyle markets. It combines a Next.js public portal, an Express 5 and Prisma REST API, and a separate RESO Web API synchronization worker. The portal supports property search, listing pages, inquiries, consumer accounts, and favorites. Supported MLS connector vendors listed are MLS Grid, Trestle, Bridge Interactive, and Spark API. Typesense can provide typo-tolerant search; without it, the kit uses PostgreSQL search. Node.js 22.12 and PostgreSQL are required, while Redis and Typesense are optional. Docker Compose is the documented portable deployment baseline, and Frontstead says no specific platform is assumed. MLS display controls start disabled, and unregistered MLS boards cause configuration to fail. The agent API is disabled by default. The project is community-supported through public repository issues. Agent HQ is separately licensed and adds CRM features. The free plan is free and self-hosted.

PadMapper is a rental search service that places listings on a map and offers filters for finding apartments, condos, and houses for rent. Its coverage includes the United States and Canada. Search options include price, bedroom and bathroom count, rental length, housing type, pet friendliness, broker fees, and custom keywords; a map view and current-location control help narrow a search geographically. PadMapper is available on the web, Android, and iOS, including iPhone and iPad apps. Users can save favorite apartments and houses to revisit, and the app provides ways to message or call landlords. Roommate and sublet listings can be posted and searched for free. Listings come from PadMapper, Zumper, and other networks. The iOS app listing describes an anti-spam algorithm intended to support listing quality and legitimacy. PadMapper says it does not verify user-submitted listings or information, investigate properties, or screen renters. The service is free. Its privacy policy says information may be shared with service providers, affiliates, landlords, and advertising or marketing partners.
