In their own words
Gale Mod Manager
Gale Mod Manager is a free tool for managing mods for games on Thunderstore and Hexium; its maker says it supports more than 150 games. It can download, install, update, remove, and launch mods and dependencies within profiles without changing base game files. The settings editor presents many mod options as checkboxes, sliders, and fields instead of raw text. Profiles can be imported or exported as codes and files compatible with r2modman and Thunderstore Mod Manager, and Gale can detect those managers and transfer profiles. Profiles can also be exported as modpacks for Thunderstore, which requires a Thunderstore account and free API token. Games can launch through Steam or Epic Games, or directly from an executable; Direct mode offers multiple-instance and launch-delay options. Gale links mod files across profiles to store one copy of each mod. It is available for Linux and Windows, and the project says the app itself uses about 15 MB. Native Steam games on Linux may need extra manual setup, currently limited to BepInEx. Windows requires Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime.
Modrinth
Modrinth hosts user-created projects for Minecraft: Java Edition, including mods, plugins, data packs, shaders, resource packs, and modpacks. Search and filters help visitors find projects, including by game version. The open-source Modrinth App is a desktop launcher for installing, removing, and updating mods, and sharing modpacks. It is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, though it is currently in public beta and Linux versions may have issues on some systems and configurations. Modrinth’s open API supports launcher integrations including ATLauncher, MultiMC, and Prism Launcher. Creators can manage team roles and permissions, receive ad revenue, and review page-view, download, and revenue reports. Modrinth Hosting supports Minecraft Java versions back to 1.2.5 and loaders including Fabric, Quilt, Forge, NeoForge, Paper, and Purpur, subject to version support. A free offer provides a 3 GB server for five days for US servers, with no credit card required. The platform has a free plan; Modrinth+ costs $4.99 a month, and customized hosting plans start at $5 a month.
