Game Developer Studio combines a library of hand-drawn 2D game assets with GDS Editor, a browser-based tool for editing, compositing, and creating assets. The standard license allows personal and commercial derivative projects without attribution, but does not allow standalone redistribution. GDS Editor Core costs nothing and runs in a desktop browser without installation, login, or server-side processing. It imports GDS, SVG, PNG, JPEG, and JPG files, and includes lossless scaling, color and outline adjustments, spritesheet playback, a personal asset stash, and several slicing tools. The texture panel and library are limited to GDS Plus supporters; the Supporter Club is temporarily closed while it is restructured. The maker says its art is made by hand, not AI-generated. The editor works on most browsers, though recent Brave versions may conflict.
