Overview

Geekbot schedules check-ins, collects updates and shares reports so teams can follow progress and blockers on their own time. Notifications can follow each participant’s time zone, and team members can personalize their reporting times. That flexibility is useful for distributed teams, though the process depends on people responding to prompts.

Polls and surveys extend the product beyond status updates. Teams can schedule polls, allow anonymous or multiple votes, and visualize results. Ask Geekbot answers natural-language questions using Geekbot reports and poll or survey votes, so it draws on captured team activity rather than serving as a general-purpose assistant.

Key features

Check-ins and follow-through

Agenda templates, recurring meetings, decision and action-item tracking, and outcome reporting support a continuing team workflow rather than a one-off form. This is a stronger fit for teams that intend to revisit commitments and results; teams that only need a simple update prompt may not need the broader process.

Polls, AI and integrations

AI-generated poll options can help teams start a question, while anonymous voting and multiple-vote options accommodate different kinds of input. Ask Geekbot can surface answers from reports and poll or survey votes, but its scope is tied to that product data. Slack and Microsoft Teams are the core integrations; optional integrations listed for its AI help include Google Calendar, Jira, Asana, GitLab and GitHub.

Exports and safeguards

Basic includes API access and CSV exports, and reports can be exported as CSV, which helps teams take reporting data elsewhere. Geekbot says it uses TLS encryption in transit and at rest, supports data removal on request, and conducts routine third-party audits and testing. It is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified and says it complies with applicable GDPR, UK-GDPR, CCPA and PCI requirements.

Pricing

Geekbot has a free Starter plan for up to 10 users. Teams exceeding 10 active participants need to upgrade, and Starter’s reporting history is limited to three months. That makes the free tier a practical starting point for small teams, but a poor long-term fit if the participant count grows or older reports matter.

Basic is split into two separately charged workflows. Basic — Standups costs $2.50 per participant/month on annual billing or $3 per participant/month on monthly billing, charged per active standup participant. It suits teams that want recurring check-ins and reports, but the active-participant basis means the bill can rise as participation expands.

Basic — Polls & Surveys costs $0.75 per respondent on annual billing or $1 per respondent/month on monthly billing, charged per unique respondent each month. No polls in a month means no charge, making it a flexible choice for occasional polling rather than a fixed seat commitment. The Basic plan offers a free 30-day trial. Paid plans include unlimited reporting history.

Enterprise has custom pricing, with volume discounts, enterprise ecosystem integration, enhanced data storage, managed cloud services and custom security assessments. It is aimed at organizations that need those enterprise provisions; priority support includes faster responses, around-the-clock assistance, a dedicated account manager and onboarding.

Platforms

Geekbot runs on web and offers API access. Its standup and polling workflows integrate with Slack and Microsoft Teams, so it fits teams already using either collaboration platform.

Who it's for

Geekbot is a sensible choice for engineering leads, product owners, CEOs and founders, operations officers, and sales and marketing managers who want asynchronous check-ins and a way to gather team input. Its time-zone-aware scheduling is particularly relevant to distributed teams. It is less compelling for groups that need neither reporting and follow-through nor polls, or for teams that will quickly outgrow the 10-user free cap and want predictable seat-based pricing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Combines standups, polls and surveys in Slack and Microsoft Teams, reducing the need to split these team workflows across tools.
Pros: Local-time scheduling and personalized reporting times accommodate teams working across time zones.
Pros: Paid plans provide unlimited reporting history, while CSV exports and API access support use of reporting data beyond the product.
Cons: Starter is capped at 10 users and limits reporting history to three months, restricting its usefulness as a growing team’s permanent plan.
Cons: Standup and polling charges use different participation measures, so teams using both need to account for active standup participants and unique monthly respondents separately.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Daily Standup Software, Meeting Management Software and Survey Software.

Sup Bot is worth considering for a free follow-up workflow capped at 15 members, or for its separately priced WFH/WFO tracking add-on.
Team O'clock may fit teams prioritizing retrospective activities, team metrics and meeting activities, with Growth starting at 10 monthly active members.
asyncmate is another freemium option for teams of up to 10 active teammates.
DailyStandup offers a free plan capped at five members, with daily AI summaries and seven-day history, a narrower starting point for very small teams.
Standuply has a free Starter plan for three users, with automation and Q&A.
StandupSync may suit teams that want per-team channel routing, custom templates, weekly digests and analytics; its Pro plan is $9.00 per month, month-to-month, for up to 50 members.
Jell is a paid alternative with Android, iOS and web platforms, rather than Geekbot’s Slack- and Teams-centered setup.
DailyBot has a free Starter plan with unlimited members but caps compiled check-in reports at 50 per organization each month and retains 14 days of history.

Verdict

Choose Geekbot if your team works in Slack or Microsoft Teams and wants asynchronous standups alongside polling, reporting and questions over team responses. The free plan gives small teams a way to begin, while separate standup and respondent pricing lets teams pay according to each workflow. Look elsewhere if the 10-user Starter cap, short free reporting history or participation-based billing does not suit your team’s scale or budgeting needs.
