Overview

Hiring teams can choose a short Express challenge or a longer take-home exercise, and can bring their own challenges for Geektastic to adapt. Human review is a meaningful distinction for teams that want more than an automated score, but it adds cost and asks candidates to spend around two hours on take-home work.

Key features

Express challenges take about 30 minutes; take-home challenges take around two hours. The shorter format is the more practical choice for an initial screen, while the longer task gives candidates more room to demonstrate coding ability at the cost of a greater time commitment.

Geektastic’s review team assesses take-home submissions and provides detailed feedback. It aims to return reviews within 24 hours, though high volumes can extend that to 48. Teams can also submit their own challenges: Geektastic ports them to the platform and reviews them against tailored guidelines. That option suits teams whose requirements do not fit a standard exercise, but the custom Express challenge creation fee is an upfront cost.

Supported areas include JavaScript, Java, PHP, Python, C#, Swift, Android, AWS, Terraform, Ansible and CI/CD. Integrations with Greenhouse, Lever and Workable let teams invite candidates and handle results through their ATS, though the integration carries a separate monthly fee.

Geektastic says its code reviews are anonymous, so reviewers do not know whose work they are assessing. It also states that it is GDPR compliant, uses SSL encryption and does not store passwords in plain text. All plans include 24/7 support.

Pricing

The free Express tier includes 50 assessed candidates per month and two seats. It is a useful starting point for teams screening modest candidate volumes, but additional candidates cost 3.00 USD per once, billed per candidate. Extra Express seats cost 50.00 USD per once, billed per admin or recruiter seat.

Teams can port an existing multiple-choice challenge for 65.00 USD per once, or commission a bespoke Express challenge for 195.00 USD per once. The library challenge licence costs 70.00 USD per month per challenge, plus $7 each use. Those charges make the free tier less straightforward as a long-term choice for teams with heavier screening needs.

Take-home use has a 350.00 USD per month platform fee when the platform is used, including two admin seats; code reviewers are free. Each human review costs 95.00 USD per once, billed per review. Extra take-home admin seats are 50.00 USD per once. This structure is better suited to teams prepared to budget for both ongoing platform access and assessment volume than to occasional users.

The ATS integration costs 130.00 USD per month. Geektastic is freemium, with a free plan and free trial, and all plans include 24/7 support. The right cost comparison depends on whether a team needs only Express screening or also take-home platform access, expert reviews, additional seats or ATS workflow support.

Platforms

Geektastic runs on web and offers an API. Its London headquarters and acquisition by UK-based Deazy at the end of 2023 provide context for the company, but do not change the practical fit of its assessment formats.

Who it's for

Geektastic is aimed at hiring teams assessing software engineering candidates, particularly those that value human feedback on take-home code and want to use an ATS integration. Teams seeking a low-cost, high-volume screen should pay close attention to the per-candidate charge beyond the free monthly allowance. Developers can also join its global community.

Pros and cons

Pros: Two assessment formats accommodate a quick screen and a more substantial coding exercise.
Pros: Human-reviewed take-home work comes with detailed feedback, with a target turnaround of 24 hours.
Pros: Teams can use their own challenges and tailor review guidelines rather than rely only on standard tasks.
Cons: Take-home use combines a monthly platform fee with a charge for each review.
Cons: The free Express tier stops at 50 assessed candidates per month; each additional candidate is charged separately.
Cons: Take-home work asks candidates for around two hours, a more demanding commitment than the roughly 30-minute Express option.

Verdict

Geektastic is a strong fit for engineering hiring teams that want human-reviewed take-home assessments, tailored challenges and ATS-connected workflows. Choose it for that combination of feedback and flexibility; look elsewhere if a fixed low-cost screening workflow matters more than expert review, since take-home access and each review are charged separately.
