In their own words

Geektastic

Geektastic provides technical assessments for hiring teams evaluating software engineering candidates. It offers Express multiple-choice challenges and take-home code challenges; the company says candidates typically spend around 30 minutes on an Express challenge and about two hours on a take-home challenge. A human review team assesses take-home submissions and provides detailed feedback. Hiring teams can also bring their own challenges, which Geektastic ports to the platform and evaluates using tailored guidelines. Supported areas include JavaScript, Java, PHP, Python, C#, Swift, Android, AWS, Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD. Greenhouse, Lever, and Workable integrations let teams handle invitations and results through their ATS. Geektastic says reviews are anonymous, and that it is GDPR compliant, uses SSL encryption, and does not store passwords in plain text. It aims to return reviews within 24 hours, though high volumes may extend turnaround to 48 hours. The free Express tier covers 50 assessed candidates per month; additional candidates cost $3 per candidate. The service runs on web and API, and all plans include 24/7 support.

TestHike

TestHike is a desktop coding assessment platform for technical hiring, programming exams, and engineering skill evaluation. Candidates work in a native desktop app with real programming environments; the platform supports 20 configured language environments, including Python, JavaScript, Java, C++, Go, Rust, and Swift. Teams can combine ready-made or custom coding questions with multiple-choice and written questions. Coding responses are scored by the share of test cases passed, while reviewers score written answers. Configurable activity information can include focus changes, clipboard activity, connected displays, and running processes. Assessments continue through connection drops, with progress saved locally roughly every 10 seconds and synced when connectivity returns. Assessment data is encrypted in local storage and in transit; submissions are checksummed and tied to a device fingerprint. TestHike says it does not record continuous webcam or screen video by default or monitor outside assessment sessions. API access can connect assessments, invites, and results to other systems. Pricing is by custom quote, based on assessment volume, reviewer seats, and features; a free trial assessment is arranged through a demo request.
