In their own words
Geneva
Geneva is a group chat app for discovering communities, meeting people, and finding or arranging local events and meetups. It is available on the web and through iOS and Android apps, with a free plan listed at free. Chat rooms support mentions, threaded replies, reactions, GIFs, attachments, polls, and pins. Audio rooms provide drop-in group audio with no stated participant limit; forum rooms support formatted posts and sorting by recency or popularity. Broadcast rooms allow up to 9 people on air and thousands of viewers, while video rooms support up to 16 people. Group tools include member questionnaires, event invitations, a calendar, token-gated rooms, and configurable roles and permissions. Geneva says its service will remain free and that it will not show ads or sell user data. Creating an account requires a phone number rather than an email address. Following its acquisition by Bumble, Geneva said it was temporarily making the service invite-only during a transition. The site links to a Help Center and contact page for assistance.
HumHub
HumHub is an open-source intranet and collaboration platform for communication and knowledge sharing. It is intended for company intranets, knowledge bases, project hubs, and customer or partner communities. Built-in tools include personalized dashboards, activity streams, configurable notifications, granular permissions, full-text search, file management, and social interactions. More than 80 optional modules add choices such as News, Messenger, Calendar, LDAP, SAML SSO, surveys, and translation tools. The platform supports private spaces, events, and moderation, with integrations including OnlyOffice, Collabora Online, LDAP, SAML SSO, and a RESTful API. Organizations can host it on their own infrastructure or use managed SaaS on European servers. The maker says its SaaS hosting is GDPR-compliant and uses ISO 27001-certified servers; on-premise users retain data in their own environment. Community Edition is available free under AGPLv3 for self-hosting. Professional Edition is €144 a month, billed monthly, for up to 100 users with SaaS hosting and no onboarding. Networks with 1,000 or more users require a custom quote.
