In their own words
GeneXus
GeneXus is an AI-powered low-code platform for creating and evolving mission-critical software from a Knowledge Base. Its deterministic generators produce applications from a model for multiple technologies and platforms, including native Android and iOS apps. An Angular generator supports web and mobile front ends, while.NET and Java generators cover web applications and backends. GeneXus for Agents lets AI agents work with Knowledge Base objects through skills, a CLI, and an MCP Server; the GeneXus engine validates changes. The platform supports REST and SOAP APIs, OpenAPI documentation, custom code integrations, and connections to external systems and databases. Named connections include OpenAI, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Apache Kafka, and Azure Service Bus. GeneXus describes security as built into its generation process and says integrations support OAuth, encryption, and secure communication channels. Deployment options include cloud, on-premises, multi-cloud, and hybrid environments. Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Montevideo, Uruguay, GeneXus lists a free plan at free and a free trial. It presents the platform for enterprise IT departments, software houses, startups, and mission-critical business applications.
Protogrid
Protogrid is a low-code platform for creating tailored business database and workflow applications. When users create an application, its database system automatically creates views and arranges data. Apps can work offline, store relevant data locally, and synchronize when connectivity returns. Applications include multilingual support, with options to add or edit translations. Features include relational data models, attachments, PDF output, JavaScript extensions, automated calculations, and a workflow engine. External systems can read and write application data through a JSON API; listed integrations also include OpenID Connect and Active Directory. Read and write access can be set individually for each app, Proto, and Card, with risk-based authorization and step-up authentication also listed. The maker says it is hosted by Hetzner in Germany and describes automatic backups and card mutation history. Protogrid is free for up to two users with any number of applications. Evaluation is limited to 12 months and does not assure availability. Enterprise costs $100 a month per environment, plus listed charges of $1 user per month and $10 user per month.
