Overview

NACVIEW detects connected devices in real time and can draw endpoint data from Active Directory, SQL databases, LDAP, and RADIUS servers. Administrators can use that visibility to identify unknown or misconfigured devices and quarantine infected ones. That combination is more useful than inventory alone for organizations that need to govern who and what can connect.

Access controls cover wired, wireless, and VPN networks, with 802.1X authentication, VLAN segmentation, captive portals, and guest and BYOD access. The breadth is valuable for mixed environments, but deployment requires at least one managed switch. Organizations without managed switching should look elsewhere.

Key features

Profiling and security integrations

Device profiling uses DHCP Fingerprinting, HTTP/S, NMAP, DNS, and RADIUS. NACVIEW also describes bidirectional information exchange with Firewall, UTM, MDM, SIEM, and other cybersecurity solutions, making it a fit for teams coordinating network access with existing security systems.

Automation and certificates

NV3 includes a full API for programmatic control, automation, and integration. Administrator authentication can add OTP and OAuth2, while OTP is also supported for TACACS security. NACVIEW supports an internal certificate authority and integration with external PKI systems; certificates can be used for 802.1X, VPN connections, and secure communications.

Endpoint posture

NACVIEW Scout supports Windows, Linux, and macOS desktop operating systems and checks items including antivirus status, operating-system updates, disk encryption, and firewall status. Those checks add endpoint context to access decisions, although they do not remove the need for compatible managed switching.

Pricing

NACVIEW uses a freemium model with a free plan and a 60-day trial. The FAQ says the full software functionality can be tried on the user's own network during the trial, which gives organizations a way to assess it in their environment before choosing a license.

Plan	Price and term	What it includes	Best fit
NV-20	0.00 USD per free; lifetime licence	One per entity; limited to 20 simultaneously authorized endpoint devices. Support, deployment, and training are optional.	A small deployment or an initial evaluation that can stay within the endpoint cap.
Annual subscription	Custom pricing; annual subscription	License sizes from 100 to 100,000 end devices; support included in the price.	Organizations that want support included and prefer an annual license.
Perpetual license	Custom pricing; first year support purchase required	License sizes from 100 to 100,000 end devices; larger licenses require an individual quotation.	Organizations seeking a perpetual license and prepared to buy the first year of support.

The NV-20's lifetime term is attractive for a small network, but the 20-device limit is a hard constraint, not a broad free deployment option. Paid license sizes begin at 100 end devices. The annual option includes support, while perpetual licensing requires a first-year support purchase; support, deployment, and training are optional on the free license.

Platforms

NACVIEW lists API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, and Windows platforms. It can be deployed as software for a virtual appliance or as a hardware appliance, with VMware and Hyper-V listed as standard virtual machine options. Its hybrid deployment model suits organizations that want appliance-based network control rather than a web-only service.

Who it's for

NACVIEW names local government, healthcare, government, services and retail, R&D institutions, strategic service providers, manufacturing, and financial institutions among its industries. Its controls are most relevant where teams need to manage access across multiple network types, classify devices, and coordinate enforcement with other security systems. A managed-switch requirement and the paid plans' minimum license size make it a weaker fit for very small environments or networks without suitable switching.

Pros and cons

Broad access coverage: Wired, wireless, and VPN controls, plus 802.1X, VLANs, captive portals, guest access, and BYOD support, cover several common access scenarios.
Useful device context: Real-time detection, multiple profiling methods, directory and authentication data, and Scout posture checks help administrators distinguish devices before granting access.
Security-stack integration: Bidirectional exchange with Firewall, UTM, MDM, and SIEM systems, along with an API and certificate support, gives NACVIEW room to fit into a wider security setup.
Infrastructure dependency: At least one managed switch is required, which rules it out for networks that cannot meet that prerequisite.
Restricted free tier: NV-20 covers only 20 simultaneously authorized endpoint devices, while paid license sizes start at 100.

Alternatives

Compare network access control software if you want to survey the category before choosing a deployment.

PacketFence is worth considering if open-source licensing and unlimited devices matter: its self-hosted edition is GPL v2+ and includes full source code.
Portnox NAC is an alternative to assess if its listed support for Android, iOS, web, and other platforms better matches your environment; it has a free trial but no free plan.
Ivanti Neurons for Zero Trust Access is another option to consider when its listed Android, iOS, web, and self-hosted platform coverage suits your requirements.
SecureW2 Cloud NAC is an alternative with paid, quote-based pricing and support for Android, iOS, web, and other listed platforms.
Genian NAC is worth comparing if you want to consider both cloud and on-premises NAC options; it offers a free trial but no free plan.
Arista NG Firewall may suit readers seeking a web-platform firewall with a free plan for basic security and connectivity features.
ExtremeControl is another paid network-control option to compare if its listed platform coverage fits your environment.
Arbiter is a more limited alternative if visibility without access enforcement is enough: its Asset Discovery plan costs 29.00 EUR per month after a 60-day free trial and includes device profiling and inventory, but no enforcement.

Verdict

Choose NACVIEW if you need access enforcement across wired, wireless, and VPN networks, with device profiling and security integrations in one appliance-based deployment. Its broad controls and 60-day full-function trial make it practical to evaluate, but the managed-switch prerequisite is non-negotiable and the free license stops at 20 endpoints. For larger deployments, compare the custom-priced annual and perpetual options; for networks without managed switching or for visibility without enforcement, look elsewhere.
