In their own words
Ghostery
Ghostery is a free, open-source browser extension combining ad blocking, tracker protection, cookie-consent handling, and tracker information tools. It blocks banners, video ads, pop-ups, and sponsored content. The Tracker Panel displays trackers it identifies and neutralizes, while WhoTracks.Me provides information about tracking activity and companies. Ghostery says its protection replaces personal identifiers with random values. Never-Consent rejects tracking cookies and sends opt-out signals on supported sites. Supported browsers include Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Safari, and Brave, and users can install the extension on as many devices as they like. On iOS and iPadOS, it offers Safari protection; on Android, it supports Edge and Firefox. Chrome on Android is unavailable because Chrome does not allow extensions there. Ghostery says extension telemetry is non-personal, with additional telemetry sent if users opt in. For phishing and malware protection, it says it sends a partial URL checksum to its backend rather than the full URL. Private Search is in closed beta.
Wappalyzer
Wappalyzer turns public website signals into technographic data for prospecting, record enrichment and monitoring market changes. It identifies thousands of technologies across millions of websites using signals such as HTML, scripts, headers, cookies and other fingerprints. Users can upload CSV or TXT files with up to 100,000 URLs for bulk analysis. APIs cover technology lookup, lead lists, subdomain discovery and email verification. Live results count as five lookups each; cached results are verified within the last 30 days. The service offers browser extensions and integrations including Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Gmail, Zapier, Make and an iPhone app. Basic extension detection runs locally, and sharing limited website-level data can be disabled in settings. The free plan includes 50 technology lookups and 50 email verifications per month, five website alerts and sample lead lists. Pro costs $250 a month for one user. Plan-included API credits expire after 60 days, while credits bought in bundles expire after 365 days. Wappalyzer is aimed at sales, marketing, operations, strategy, partnerships and security teams.
