Overview

GifRun converts YouTube, Vimeo, other supported video links, and uploaded footage into animated images. The editor offers enough control to make a clip feel intentional: crop it, add draggable text, change speed and frame rate, apply a filter, and choose an output resolution. GIF and WebP support gives users a choice of formats, while the free tier's watermark limits its usefulness for polished publishing.

Anonymous use is more constrained than a free account: clips can be up to 10 seconds at 520px, with a watermark and possible ads. A free account raises those limits to 20 seconds and 600px, removes ads, and saves creations to a profile. It still watermarks exports, so the account is a practical step up for casual sharing, not a substitute for clean output.

Key features

Eight built-in filters, cropping, text overlays, speed changes, frame-rate controls, and resolution selection cover the core adjustments for making an animated excerpt. Direct uploads accept MP4, MOV, and MKV files up to 200 MB for subscribers; otherwise, users can work from YouTube, Vimeo, and other supported video links. PRO adds video generation from text prompts using OpenAI's Sora model, extending GifRun beyond conversion of existing footage.

Signed-in users can save creations to profiles, claim vanity URLs, add hashtags, and share dedicated image pages. Public images support likes, comments, follows, feeds, and notifications; private profiles restrict images to approved followers. These social features may suit people who want a profile around their animations, but they are secondary to the conversion and editing tools.

Pricing

The Free Account is free. It allows GIFs and WebPs up to 20 seconds and 600px, with a watermark and no advertisements. That is a useful no-subscription option for short, informal work, but the watermark and resolution cap are meaningful trade-offs for anyone publishing finished assets. Anonymous use has a 10-second, 520px limit, with a watermark and possible advertisements.

PRO Monthly costs 5.00 USD per month, billed monthly and recurring, with cancellation anytime. PRO Annual costs 50.00 USD per year, billed annually and recurring; the listed annual plan saves $10/year against twelve monthly payments. Both provide unlimited GIF/WebP duration, up to 2K resolution, no watermark or advertisements, and direct video uploads. They fit regular users who need clean exports, higher resolution, or longer animations. Monthly and yearly subscriptions qualify for a full refund within 14 days.

The PRO One-Time Pass costs 10.00 USD per month for 60 days of PRO access and does not recur. It includes unlimited duration, up to 2K resolution, no watermark or advertisements, and direct uploads. For a short project or occasional burst of work, it avoids a continuing subscription; at twice the monthly subscription price, it is not the economical choice for ongoing use. PRO payments and card transactions are processed by Stripe.

Platforms

GifRun runs on the web. Its browser-based workflow avoids a desktop installation, but readers seeking a native mobile or desktop app should consider another option.

Who it's for

GifRun is a good fit for people who regularly turn online video or uploaded clips into GIFs or WebP animations and want basic editing controls in the same browser workflow. The free account suits short, watermarked sharing; PRO suits users who need clean output, 2K resolution, direct uploads, or unrestricted duration. It is less compelling for prompt-based creation on a free budget, since Sora generation is a PRO feature, or for users who need an app outside the web.

Pros and cons

Pros: GIF and WebP output, plus cropping, text, speed, frame-rate, and filter controls, provide practical ways to shape a clip.
Pros: The free account permits clips up to 20 seconds and 600px without ads, while the 60-day pass gives paid features without recurring billing.
Cons: Free exports carry a watermark and stop at 600px; anonymous use is capped at 10 seconds and 520px.
Cons: PRO is required for direct uploads, 2K exports, and Sora prompt-to-video generation, so the most capable workflow is not free.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison of AI GIF makers, start with the category list. Choose Moxion instead if mobile and desktop platforms matter: it supports Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows, and its free plan includes one shared AI generation per day, 150 gifted credits, a 480p preview, and a watermark. Imgflip GIF Maker is an alternative for Android, iOS, macOS, or Windows users; its free plan allows video segments up to 24 seconds, with a 360×360 maximum video dimension.

GIPHY Create is a free alternative for Android, iOS, and web. Choose Kapwing instead if you want a web, macOS, or Windows editor whose free plan includes 10 credits, exports up to four minutes, and 720p. GifCraft is another option for Android, iOS, or web, with a free, no-account plan that has no watermark or export limit and allows a few AI-generated images per hour.

Hagif offers local single-file tools without a required account or watermark, and a one-time 4.99 USD 24-hour Power Pass. Rewind.ai AI GIF Generator is a web alternative with a free allowance of 5,000 tokens per day. Ezgif is a free web option with no signup or conversion limits stated, and supports uploads up to 200 MB.

Verdict

Choose GifRun if you want to turn linked or uploaded video into a styled GIF or WebP in a browser, and can use PRO for clean, higher-resolution or longer exports. Its free account is genuinely useful for short, watermarked clips, but the 600px limit and watermark are the clearest reasons to look elsewhere or pay.
