In their own words
Ginger
Ginger is an AI-powered grammar and spell checker focused on English. Its writing tools include grammar, spelling and punctuation checks, sentence rephrasing, translation, proofreading, essay checking and a Personal Trainer. Core writing features focus on English, with UK and American English options. The free version offers essential functions with some limitations; Premium includes unlimited corrections and rephrasing, a synonyms dictionary, a text reader and translation between over 40 languages. Ginger integrates with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook on Windows, and provides Chrome and Edge extensions that work on sites including Gmail, Google Docs, Facebook and LinkedIn. Its API is intended for organizations with high-volume text processing needs and can be installed on customer servers. Ginger says submitted text is sent to correction servers and returned without being stored or transferred to third parties. Text analysis and correction require a stable internet connection. Pricing notes list paid plans from $6/mo (annual); listed examples include Monthly at $7.99 a month and Annual at $4.99 a year, billed as one payment of $59.88.
TextGears
TextGears checks writing for spelling, grammar, style, and readability, through its website and API. The API also provides autocorrection, text analysis, language detection, summarization, and keyword extraction, returning JSON through HTTP or HTTPS requests. Its documentation lists 11 languages, including English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Arabic, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and Greek, as well as dialect codes such as en-US, en-GB, and pt-BR. A Postman collection and JavaScript library link are available for integration. Free access includes 500 requests per month, 200k characters per month, and a 4k-character request limit. PRO costs $2.48 a month and includes unlimited checks, translations, and paraphrases of long texts, custom dictionary rules, and an option not to store texts. TextGears says AI does not support every language and recommends standard plans when language breadth matters more than AI analysis quality. Readability metrics are recommended for texts of at least 30 words. The maker is headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia.
