Glarysoft Software Update
Glarysoft Software Update scans applications installed on a Windows PC and checks Glarysoft’s software library for available versions. The free version notifies users about updates and provides information, but users must download the updates manually. Software Update Pro can install an update after the user selects Install, and its guide describes silent installation without user intervention. Remote Manager lets network administrators manage installations and updates on LAN-connected PCs. Users can ignore beta versions, choose which versions to show or ignore, and set whether the updater starts when Windows boots. The Pro library groups software into categories including Browsers & Plugins, Utilities, Security, Communications, Video, and Photos. Glarysoft lists the updater as a Windows product and describes Pro for home and business use, including LAN administration for internet cafes, schools, and companies. The free plan is listed at free. Pro is listed at $12.95 a year, and a three-PC code at $14.97, paid once. The product page advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee; Glarysoft says it usually responds to email inquiries within one or two business days.
Ubuntu Update Manager
Ubuntu Update Manager is a free graphical frontend for apt that installs available updates and supports routine Ubuntu system upgrades. In the desktop menu it appears as Software Updater, and Ubuntu describes the package as a GNOME application for managing apt updates. It is intended for daily system upgrading as well as migration to a newer Ubuntu release.
The tool can check whether a new distribution release is available. Its development-release option can upgrade from the latest supported release to the development release. During an upgrade, it may reinstall ubuntu-desktop, change sources.list entries to updated ones, and add the default user to new groups when needed. Ubuntu says its bundled installation tools validate packages during installation to check for manipulation during download. Update Manager runs on Linux and integrates with apt. The manpage credits Michael Vogt and various contributors with its development; it also states that redistribution is permitted under the GNU General Public License and provides no warranty.
