Overview

Global Site Management (GSM) is on-premises data center infrastructure management software for teams coordinating facility operations, capacity planning, and risk mitigation. It is best suited to operators who need power, cooling, space, and equipment workflows in one system. Its broad operational coverage and unlimited simultaneous users are compelling, but the Windows, SQL Server, and Visio requirements and per-rack pricing make it a poor fit for teams seeking a lightweight, low-commitment cloud tool.

Key features

Power, environment, and capacity

GSM combines hardware auto-discovery with real-time power and environmental data collection. Energy analysis, outlet control, and power gear configuration give facilities teams tools for electrical oversight; capacity modeling supports planning, while failure detection, alerts, and device-impact assessment help operators prioritize emerging risks. Custom-group measurements and alerts can focus attention on selected equipment. Together, these capabilities suit sites that need both day-to-day monitoring and forward capacity planning, rather than a simple asset register.

Assets and integrations

Asset inventory and reservations, movement audits, document and warranty management, CSV import, and work orders cover much of the record-keeping around physical equipment. GSM commonly communicates through SNMP, JSON, BACnet, and Modbus, and can accommodate other protocols; supported device categories include PDUs, sensors, servers, switches, and storage. GSMintegrate can connect trouble-ticket systems such as Remedy with asset work orders and automatic email notifications. Microsoft Visio integration supports floor-plan and device management, which is useful for teams already using Visio in site planning.

Power and asset dashboards are available through cloud and desktop interfaces, with mobile interfaces for some suites. Norlinx also offers custom integrations, on-site implementation, training, and support. Dedicated account management and 24×7 technical support apply to some suites, so service expectations should be confirmed when choosing one.

Pricing

GSM uses a freemium model. GSMpowerlite is 0.00 USD per free and is positioned for smaller data centers and pilot programs, making it the lowest-commitment way to assess the system. The entry-level label signals a narrower starting point than the paid suites; teams needing a fuller operational deployment should compare suite features before relying on it.

GSMessential, GSMprofessional, and GSMenterprise have custom pricing, available by call or direct email. GSM products are priced per rack, so total cost depends on the deployment rather than the number of users. Unlimited simultaneous users and no per-user charge are a notable advantage for operations involving many stakeholders, but buyers still need a rack-based quote to assess budget. Norlinx offers free trials that generally last 30 days; custom integrations or extensive travel may incur costs.

Platforms

GSM is deployed on-premises and supports Android, iOS, web, and Windows access, with mobile access depending on the suite. The stated system requirements include a 64-bit Windows operating system, 8 GB of available RAM, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Visio Professional. Those dependencies favor organizations able to maintain the required Microsoft infrastructure; they are a meaningful constraint for teams seeking a simpler hosted setup or a Linux-centered deployment.

Who it's for

GSM is a strong candidate for data center operators managing mixed IT and facility equipment who need monitoring, capacity planning, asset records, and operational workflows together. Smaller facilities and pilot teams can start with GSMpowerlite, while larger or more demanding sites can consider the paid suites. It is less suited to buyers who need public, straightforward pricing or want to avoid Windows, SQL Server, and Visio dependencies.

Pros and cons

Broad operational coverage: Power and environmental monitoring, capacity planning, asset records, work orders, and failure-impact assessment address connected facility and IT needs.
Protocol and device breadth: Common protocols and support for both facility and IT equipment help bring varied infrastructure into the same workflow.
No per-user licensing: Unlimited simultaneous users can simplify access across operations teams without multiplying user fees.
Infrastructure demands: Windows, SQL Server, and Visio Professional are substantial prerequisites for organizations without that stack.
Custom suite costs: Per-rack quotes make it harder to compare paid options against products with public prices before contacting Norlinx.

Alternatives

For a different DCIM option, compare Data Center Infrastructure Management Software. Hyperview is worth considering if a paid per-asset subscription and a 30-day all-features trial with no credit card are preferable. Cormant-CS suits buyers looking for a published subscription example of 7,200.00 USD per year for approximately 25–30 racks, with 500 assets and support including 32 hours of live consultant time.

Danbyte is a free, open-source, self-hosted option with all features included and no seat license or expiry. openDCIM offers a free web-based application under GPL v3. Sunbird dcTrack may fit teams seeking an annual subscription priced at 19.50 USD per month, with unlimited users, sites, and assets. ColdAisle is a free, self-hosted option under the MIT license. Brightlayer DCIM is another paid product, sold through an Eaton reseller. EcoStruxure IT is a paid web and mobile option with a three-year, 250-node plan.

Verdict

Choose GSM if your data center team needs a single on-premises system for monitoring, planning, and asset workflows, especially when many users need access without per-seat charges. Its breadth and protocol flexibility are the strongest reasons to shortlist it. Look elsewhere if you need transparent suite pricing upfront or cannot accommodate its Windows, SQL Server, and Visio requirements.
