In their own words
Google Chat
Google Chat is a messaging and collaboration service included with Google Workspace at no additional cost. It runs on the web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Persistent collaboration spaces can hold up to 500,000 members, while administrators can set whether message history is on or off by default. Chat connects with Workspace apps including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Meet, and Google Groups, as well as tools such as Asana, GitHub, Jira, Salesforce, and Trello. Organizations can build custom apps with Chat APIs and Apps Script, and can migrate existing data from Slack or Teams with interoperability solutions available. Gemini in Chat can summarize conversations, share action items, translate, and brainstorm. Google Workspace offers a 14-day free trial. Business Starter costs $7 a month on an annual commitment, billed monthly for a yearly term, and supports up to 300 users. Workspace subscriptions include other apps such as Gmail, Meet, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Sites.
Lark
Lark brings workplace communication and collaboration tools together in one platform, including chat, calendars, document creation and cloud storage. In video meetings, participants can edit shared Docs in the call window. Starter includes unlimited real-time translation, while AnyCross provides drag-and-drop workflow automation and integrations, including ready-to-use solutions. The App Directory lists third-party tools for areas such as collaboration, recruitment, expense control, CRM and ERP. Developers can use the Open Platform to build custom bots, web apps and blocks, with more than 2,500 APIs available. Lark supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. Starter is limited to 20 users, 100 GB of storage and one-on-one video meetings; its listed allowances also include 18 months of message history and 1,000 automations per month. Basic, Pro and Enterprise list higher user, storage, meeting or automation allowances. The maker describes Starter as intended for small teams with simple communication needs and Enterprise for large companies needing advanced security and organizational management.
