In their own words
GPTExcel
GPTExcel is a conversational web app for working with Excel and Google Sheets, with connections to CSV, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. It generates, explains, and fixes spreadsheet formulas, and can clean, reshape, split, merge, or deduplicate data with a before-and-after preview. The product also lists analysis, custom functions, and workflow automation. Work Agent handles multi-step data workflows and connects to data sources; teams can reuse saved analyses and templates. The template library contains more than 299 ready-to-use templates, and the service supports 18 languages. ChatDB runs read-only queries and cannot change connected data. Database passwords are encrypted at rest and are not returned to the browser or written to logs; files, sheets, and connections stay scoped to the account and request. The Free plan offers up to 90 credits per month through daily check-ins, and use does not require a credit card. Pro costs $19.90 per month, Max costs $29.90 per month, and API access is listed for Teams Max use cases.
Grist
Grist combines spreadsheet analysis with database-style organization for complex data work. It structures information relationally while supporting Python formulas and Excel-like spreadsheet functions. Pages can present tables, cards, forms, charts, calendars and custom widgets, and access rules can govern visibility or editing at the table, column and record level. A REST API supports programmatic reading and modification of documents, workspaces and team sites; integrations include Zapier, Integrately, Pabbly Connect, n8n and Make. Grist is available as a hosted service, a free open-source Community edition for self-hosting, and a desktop app that works without internet access or an online account. Documents are SQLite databases and can be exported as.grist files. Hosted Grist uses AWS infrastructure, HTTPS, encrypted storage and backups, and optional MFA, but has not undergone certification or auditing for SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA or GDPR compliance. The free plan allows up to 5,000 records per document; a 30-day trial is listed.
