In their own words
GRR Rapid Response
GRR Rapid Response is an incident response framework for remote investigation and live forensics. Client agents run on target systems, while server infrastructure provides a web interface and API. From the framework, analysts can search and download files, search the Windows registry, access raw filesystems, and collect forensic artifacts. GRR also supports remote memory analysis with YARA and lets analysts schedule fleet hunts, including for machines offline when a hunt is scheduled.
The integration list includes Colab, Splunk, BigQuery, Elasticsearch, Timesketch, Turbinia, Python API clients, and an HTTPS REST API with OpenAPI definitions. The maker says client-server communication is encrypted against eavesdropping and impersonation; approval-based controls can gate sensitive actions. GRR is self-hosted, open source under Apache License 2.0, and listed at free. Clients normally run as root and can read system data, so access to the server carries equivalent access to client machines. The core team does not offer a helpdesk, paid setup assistance, feeds, or consulting.
