Overview

Stonly brings interactive guidance, knowledge management and AI answers together for customer-service work. It suits support teams that need to direct people through different resolution paths, not just publish static help articles. The breadth is useful, but Basic’s tight publishing and view caps and the possibility of an automatic upgrade make plan limits central to the decision.

Key features

Guides and in-context support

Step-by-step guides use choices to tailor instructions to a customer’s or employee’s situation. No-code triggers can embed them on web pages, help centers, and web or mobile apps, putting help beside the task rather than behind a separate search. Onboarding checklists, product tours and walkthroughs also make Stonly relevant to teams handling both support and product instruction. This range is less compelling if a team only needs a simple library of static articles.

Knowledge management and AI

The knowledge base combines articles and interactive guides with analytics, versioning, rights management and multimedia content. AI Answers uses structured, metadata-rich content to answer questions, surface relevant guides and support automated multi-step resolutions. That creates a coherent route from maintained support content to guided answers, but teams need to keep that content structured for the AI features to be useful.

Integrations and trust

Integrations include Zendesk, Salesforce, Freshworks, ServiceNow, Slack, Google Drive, Notion and Zapier, connecting Stonly with support desks and common work tools. The Trust Center lists HIPAA, GDPR and a SOC 2 Type 2 report under compliance. Enterprise adds priority support and dedicated customer success for organizations that need a more supported relationship.

Pricing

Stonly uses a freemium model, but none of the plan prices is stated. New accounts receive a 14-day Small Business trial, then move to Basic at no charge if they do not upgrade. That provides a way to continue after the trial, though Basic is a limited starting point rather than an unrestricted free tier.

Plan	Included limits and features	Best fit
Basic	400 guide views per month, 5 published guides, 1 language, 100 steps per guide and 1 team member.	A solo operator validating a small, single-language guide collection.
Small Business	4,000 guide views and 5 team members, with 1 knowledge base.	A small support team that needs more views and shared access than Basic allows.
Enterprise	Unlimited knowledge bases, SSO compatibility, private knowledge bases, help desk integrations, AI Agents, priority support and dedicated customer success.	Organizations needing multiple or private knowledge bases, identity integration and enterprise support.

Basic’s one-seat and five-guide limits will quickly rule it out for teams publishing a broader help center. Small Business raises the view allowance tenfold and adds four team seats, but its single knowledge base may constrain organizations separating content by product or audience. If monthly guide views exceed a plan’s limit for two consecutive months, Stonly says it will upgrade the account and give advance email notice; teams with variable traffic should account for that risk. Enterprise is the option for broader knowledge-base needs and AI Agents, but it has custom pricing.

Platforms

Stonly supports Android, iOS and the web. Its in-context delivery also covers web and mobile apps, while integrations connect it to third-party support and work tools.

Who it's for

Stonly is strongest for customer-service teams that need interactive troubleshooting, managed knowledge and AI-assisted answers in one platform. It can also support employee guidance and product onboarding. A solo user with modest needs can start on Basic; a growing support team should compare Small Business’s view and seat allowances against its expected usage. Teams seeking only a static knowledge base, or unwilling to manage structured content and view quotas, should consider a narrower alternative.

Pros and cons

Pros

Interactive guides and no-code in-context delivery support tailored help across web and mobile experiences.
Articles, guides, versioning, rights management and analytics bring content operations together.
AI Answers can surface guides and support multi-step resolutions from structured content.
The 14-day trial rolls into a no-charge Basic plan rather than ending in an immediate paid renewal.

Cons

Basic allows only one team member and five published guides, limiting its usefulness for collaborative support teams.
Basic’s 400 monthly guide views and the Small Business plan’s 4,000 views make traffic management important.
Two consecutive months over a plan’s view limit can trigger an account upgrade after advance email notice.
Plan prices are custom pricing, so teams cannot compare costs from the stated plan terms alone.

Alternatives

For product analytics paired with in-app guides and a free allowance of 500 monthly active users, consider Pendo Analytics instead of Stonly’s service-oriented knowledge platform. Wakeline offers a free plan with 3 flows, 1,000 monthly active users and one teammate; choose it when those flow and user caps suit your needs. StepBeam is another free option, with up to 1,000 monthly active users, three team seats and one application. For client portals and templates, rather than customer-service guidance, Synerdeck has a free plan for up to 10 clients and two templates.

Gainsight PX is a paid alternative with a free trial. Appcues is a paid alternative with a free trial. For an alternative with a free plan and unlimited projects, see Driver.js. Flook offers a free plan with watermarked widgets and a paid Pro plan at 39.00 USD per month, so it is worth considering when widgets are the priority.

Verdict

Choose Stonly if your customer-service team needs branching guidance, managed knowledge and AI answers in one system, with delivery embedded in web or mobile experiences. The main reason to look elsewhere is the combination of capped views, a small Basic publishing allowance and custom pricing: teams that need predictable costs or a larger free library may be better served by a more narrowly scoped tool.
