Overview

Hadeda is utility-billing software for multi-unit properties, pairing a manager portal with a resident app. It is best suited to South African property operators billing residents for metered water. Its practical appeal is the connection between unit-level usage, monthly statements and in-app payments; its present-day scope is limited to water and postpaid billing.

Key features

Resident billing and collections

Residents can check meter data, receive a single statement for rent and utilities, and pay in the app. Postpaid bills fall due monthly on the 1st, and online collections are supported. This gives managers a connected billing and payment workflow, though prepaid billing is still rolling out and should not be treated as a live option.

Metering, alerts and reporting

Hadeda uses submetering to allocate consumption to units and supports ultrasonic, smart-mechanical and electromagnetic meters for domestic, zonal and bulk applications. Its current fleet includes Kamstrup and Axioma ultrasonic meters. That variety is useful for properties with different metering setups, but meter transmissions and connectivity can be interrupted, delaying or correcting readings.

The platform checks meter patterns for leaks, sends alerts and can support remote shutoff when smart valves are installed. Residents can also receive bill-increase warnings and unusual-usage flags, with charts spanning hourly through yearly views. Monthly reports cover readings, usage, charges, meter health and bulk-versus-unit totals, and can be exported to Excel or CSV. These tools give managers ways to spot anomalies and review allocations, while remote shutoff depends on having compatible smart valves.

Property systems and infrastructure

A third-party API can connect Hadeda with property systems. Connectivity options include Sigfox, LoRaWAN and fixed radio, which offer deployment choices across different sites. Hadeda uses Firebase Authentication and Google Cloud, says its privacy policy aligns with POPIA, and notes that data may be stored outside South Africa. Users may request access, correction or deletion of personal information by email.

Email support is answered within one business day; phone and WhatsApp support operates Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 SAST. Third-party systems, as well as meter connections, can also interrupt service and affect readings.

Pricing

Hadeda is paid software with custom pricing. Property managers should request a quote before deciding whether it fits their operating budget; no self-serve plan or trial terms are established here.

Platforms

Hadeda supports Android, iOS and web. The combination covers residents using mobile apps and managers working through the portal.

Who it's for

Hadeda is aimed at South African estates, body corporates, property managers, owners and municipalities, as well as commercial properties with multiple units. It is a stronger fit for operators that need water submetering, resident billing and collections together than for those whose immediate requirement is live electricity, gas or prepaid billing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Unit-level submetering, resident statements and online payments are joined in one workflow, reducing the need to separate metering from resident billing.
Pros: Leak alerts, usage warnings, health reporting and spreadsheet exports support ongoing oversight of meters and allocations.
Cons: Water is the live utility and postpaid is the live billing model; electricity, gas and prepaid billing remain in rollout.
Cons: Pricing is custom, so prospective buyers must request a quote rather than compare a published plan directly.
Cons: Reading interruptions can follow connectivity or third-party outages, and remote shutoff requires smart valves.

Alternatives

Property Management Utility Billing Software is the broader category directory for comparing utility-billing options.

Choose Ayillo Tenant Screening instead when tenant screening is the primary need; it has a Core workspace plan at 49.00 USD per month, billed monthly per workspace, with the first five units included, and offers a free trial.

Chirp Utilities is worth comparing when a freemium option matters: its free Core platform includes unlimited properties and team members, with the first 10 units per module free, while Advanced reporting costs 0.40 USD per month.

MyVoltage Utility Management Platform is another paid option for Android, iOS and web.

MRI Property Management X may suit buyers seeking a paid platform across API, web and Windows; pricing is by request.

Genea Submeter Billing is a paid submeter-billing alternative for Android, iOS and web, with quotes available through a demo request.

Smarty Utility Management offers paid rental models, including rent-to-own and monthly rental, for buyers weighing those payment structures.

Zego Utility is a paid option for multifamily utility expense management and resident utility billing.

RealPage Resident Billing is another paid, web-based alternative.

Verdict

Hadeda is a sensible choice for South African multi-unit property operators who need to allocate water use, issue resident bills and collect payments in a connected system. Its strongest reason to buy is the combination of metering oversight and resident-facing billing; look elsewhere if you need electricity, gas or prepaid billing live now, or require transparent published pricing.
