Overview

WiFiman brings network discovery, wireless checks and remote access together without a subscription. The mobile app has the broadest range: it tests connections and provides wireless metrics, while the desktop apps focus on UniFi device discovery and Teleport VPN. That makes it a practical choice for quick checks on a phone, but not a substitute for a broader desktop toolset.

Key features

Speed and connection metrics: The mobile app tests upload and download speeds over Wi-Fi or cellular. With a UniFi Gateway, it also monitors signal strength, throughput, latency and roaming between access points. Gateway-dependent metrics are useful for understanding more than a single speed result, but their value is limited if your network does not use UniFi equipment.
Coverage mapping: Floorplan Mapper uses LiDAR-equipped mobile devices to record signal strength in different areas and visualize coverage and device roaming. It can help compatible-device owners see how wireless performance varies around a space; it is not a general mapping option for phones without LiDAR.
Device discovery: The Discovery tab displays IP addresses and other identifying information for devices connected to Wi-Fi. This is useful for a quick inventory of the network, though the feature is not a replacement for a full network-management suite.
Remote access: Teleport is a zero-configuration VPN for reaching a UniFi network remotely. It uses WireGuard to encrypt traffic, and Ubiquiti says it does not store user data. A compatible UniFi gateway is required. Each invitation expires after 24 hours and works with one device at a time, a meaningful constraint when sharing access or connecting more than one device.

Pricing

WiFiman costs 0.00 USD per free. The mobile app is free and ad-free, with no free trial needed. Desktop users receive only UniFi Device Discovery and Teleport VPN, so the no-cost offer is substantially more complete on mobile than on Windows, macOS or Linux.

There are no paid WiFiman plans or subscription terms to weigh. The main qualification is hardware: Teleport requires a compatible UniFi gateway, and the richer wireless metrics require a UniFi Gateway. Without that equipment, WiFiman still offers mobile speed tests and device discovery, but less of the UniFi-specific value.

Platforms

WiFiman supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows. Mobile downloads are offered for iOS and Android. Desktop installers cover Windows x86-64 and ARM64, macOS Intel and Apple Silicon, and Linux AMD64. The platform choice matters: the mobile app carries the wireless testing and mapping features, while desktop is restricted to UniFi Device Discovery and Teleport VPN.

The Google Play listing says the app may share location and personal information, and may collect personal information, app activity and app performance data. It also says data is encrypted in transit. Readers who are sensitive to mobile data practices should consider those disclosures when choosing a network utility.

Who it's for

WiFiman is a sensible fit for UniFi users who want free mobile speed checks, device discovery and gateway-aware wireless monitoring. Owners of LiDAR-equipped phones also get a coverage-mapping option. It is a weaker choice for people seeking a feature-rich desktop analyzer, or for users who need remote access without compatible UniFi hardware.

Pros and cons

Pros
- Free and ad-free mobile app combines speed testing, device discovery and wireless metrics.
- With UniFi Gateway equipment, it can show signal strength, throughput, latency and roaming, and LiDAR-equipped devices can map coverage.
- Teleport uses WireGuard encryption and provides remote access without a setup-heavy VPN workflow.
Cons
- Desktop versions support only UniFi Device Discovery and Teleport, not the broader mobile feature set.
- Teleport requires compatible UniFi hardware, and invitations expire after 24 hours and are limited to one device at a time.
- Coverage mapping requires a LiDAR-equipped mobile device, and the richer wireless metrics depend on a UniFi Gateway.

Alternatives

For a broader starting point, browse Wi-Fi Analyzer Software. NetSpot is worth considering if you want a freemium tool with a free edition for personal and evaluation use on macOS and Windows, plus Android and iOS support; its free trial and paid annual option give it a different upgrade path.

inSSIDer may suit Windows or macOS users who want Wi-Fi scanning and visualization through a free download, or a paid MetaGeek Plus plan at 200.00 USD per year. Its free edition requires a free Oscium account. Choose Parkdale instead if you want a free utility that runs on Android, macOS or Windows.

Wi-Fi Scanner is an option for Windows users: personal use is free under a perpetual license, while commercial use is covered by a 99.95 USD per once business license. For planning work, Hamina Planner offers a freemium route across Linux, macOS, web and Windows, with its Planner starting at 590.00 USD per contact.

TamoGraph Site Survey is a paid macOS and Windows alternative with a trial; its Pro 6 Month Time-Limited License costs 499.00 USD per once and lasts six months. Vistumbler is a free alternative for Android and Windows. Acrylic Wi-Fi Heatmaps is another Windows option, offered as freemium with a free trial.

Verdict

Choose WiFiman if you use UniFi hardware and want a capable, ad-free mobile companion for connection checks, device discovery and remote access at no cost. Its strongest case is the mobile combination of measurements and UniFi-aware tools. Look elsewhere if desktop analysis is central to your work, or if you need VPN access without a compatible UniFi gateway.
