Overview

HASTUS brings planning, scheduling and operations into one suite, with modules for on-demand transport, customer information and integration. GIRO says it serves more than 300 public transportation and postal networks worldwide. The scope and configurable optimization are well suited to operators whose service rules and modes need to work together, but may be excessive for an organization looking only for a crew scheduler.

Key features

Planning tools support network redesign and analysis of crowding, coverage, accessibility, ridership and equity. Historical operating data can feed KPI reports and dashboards, including analysis of cost-reduction opportunities. GTFS imports help synchronize networks and create connections with trains or other agencies’ bus routes, making the planning tools useful beyond routine timetable work.

Optimizers produce vehicle, rolling-stock and crew schedules while accounting for each client’s business rules. Operations modules also support employee bidding and changes to planned service. Duty-time rules, qualification tracking and fatigue management address workforce constraints alongside scheduling; that combination is relevant to complex operations, though buyers should expect a system configured around their own requirements rather than a one-size-fits-all workflow.

Passenger rail functions coordinate track access, rolling stock, onboard crew and station staff in an integrated system. HASTUS-OnDemand supports automated scheduling, ongoing resource optimization, multimodal trips and management of multiple providers. SelfBooking+ provides a mobile booking option for iOS and Android, while SelfBooking Web lets customers and booking agents manage occasional or recurring trips through a responsive web application.

HASTUS Connect, included with every installation at no extra charge, facilitates data exchange with AVL, APC, ticketing and other systems. GIRO says its internal security control framework is based on ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and includes need-to-know access, two-factor authentication and laptop encryption; personal information is hosted in Canada. Client support is available through a service portal, email and telephone.

Pricing

HASTUS is paid software with custom pricing: GIRO provides pricing on request. Organizations should ask for a quote based on their required modules and operating needs. HASTUS Connect is included with every installation at no extra charge, but no plan tiers or seat and usage limits are provided.

Platforms

HASTUS is available on Android, iOS and the web. The SelfBooking+ app runs on iOS and Android, and SelfBooking Web is responsive for browser-based trip management.

Who it's for

HASTUS is best suited to public transport authorities and operators managing multiple modes, interconnected schedules or demanding workforce and service rules. Its rail, on-demand and network-planning capabilities matter most to organizations that need those functions coordinated. A smaller team seeking only crew scheduling should compare more focused products before taking on a configurable suite.

Pros and cons

Broad operational scope: planning, vehicle and crew scheduling, passenger rail, on-demand service and operations modules can address connected needs across a network.
Rule-aware optimization: algorithms handle client-specific business rules, with duty-time, qualification and fatigue considerations relevant to constrained crew planning.
Useful integration included: HASTUS Connect supports data exchange with AVL, APC and ticketing systems at no extra charge with every installation.
Custom pricing requires a sales inquiry: organizations cannot use a published price to assess cost before requesting a quote.
Potentially more suite than needed: teams that want a standalone crew scheduler may not need its extensive planning and multi-mode functions.

Alternatives

For a focused comparison, see the Crew Scheduling Software list. Mintra OCS HR is a paid alternative available as a local installation or cloud solution, with Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, web and API platforms. Consider it if those deployment options matter more than HASTUS’s stated public-transport scope.

ISF Watchkeeper is a paid alternative with a free trial and a Watchkeeper 3 Online plan billed per vessel per year; it may suit buyers comparing trial access or vessel-based pricing. CrewLogic, N-Ops & Crew, RadiantFleet, COMPAS, ProVerne Crew Management System and ShipManager Crewing are other paid alternatives.

Verdict

Choose HASTUS if you run public transport services and need planning, scheduling and operations to reflect your network’s rules across multiple modes. Its integrated rail and on-demand capabilities, plus included HASTUS Connect, strengthen the case for a broad deployment. Look elsewhere if you need only crew scheduling or require a published price before engaging a vendor.
