| License and support | The open-source version is MIT licensed and includes community support. | The repository is MIT-licensed and invites issues and pull requests. |
| Purpose | HookBytes provides webhook infrastructure through managed cloud or open-source self-hosting. | whook is a self-hostable gateway that captures inbound webhooks, acknowledges them quickly, and forwards them to destinations with automatic retries. |
| Retries | It delivers events asynchronously with exponential backoff and a dead letter queue for failed events. | Failed deliveries use deterministic exponential backoff, honor Retry-After for 429 responses, and are dead-lettered when the retry budget is exhausted. |
| Security | The page describes HMAC authentication and says webhook payloads are stored safely. | When configured, an admin bearer token protects the management API, dashboard, and metrics; provider signing secrets are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. |
| Storage | Webhook payloads are stored with event history and metadata, including headers and delivery status. | SQLite is the default storage backend, and Postgres is supported for larger or multi-instance deployments. |

In their own words
HookBytes
HookBytes provides webhook infrastructure as a managed cloud service or an open-source self-hosted gateway. It creates dynamic endpoints with HMAC authentication and custom routing rules, then delivers events asynchronously with exponential backoff and a dead letter queue for failed deliveries. Users can search, filter, inspect, and replay events through the dashboard or CLI. Stored payloads include event history and metadata such as headers and delivery status. The Open Source plan is a self-hosted Laravel gateway with full source access, an MIT license, community support, and unlimited webhooks at free. Cloud Starter costs $29 a month for up to 100K webhooks monthly, standard support, a 99.9% uptime SLA, email and Slack alerts, API rate limiting, and real-time monitoring. Enterprise has custom pricing, unlimited webhooks, a 99.99% uptime SLA, multi-region deployments, dedicated support, on-premise options, and custom integrations. HookBytes is available through API, self-hosted, and web platforms.
