Overview

iBar focuses on managing the icons already in the macOS menu bar: users can hide, reveal, group and rearrange them. It does not replace the apps those icons represent; its value is in making a crowded strip easier to manage.

Key features

Standard mode folds hidden icons away, while aggregation mode gathers them in a panel below the menu bar. The panel can help MacBook users reach icons obscured by a notch, making it the more useful mode when visibility is the problem as well as clutter.

In aggregation mode, users can temporarily bring a hidden icon back to the menu bar to operate its app menu, then hide it again with an optional delay. That is a practical way to reach occasional controls without keeping every icon visible. Icon spacing and order are adjustable in the layout settings, and iBar also supports keyboard shortcuts and grouping menu items.

The maker says iBar supports Apple M-series and Intel Macs. The developer reports collecting no data; Apple says that developer-provided privacy information has not been verified by Apple. Support requests go through the maker’s website, with replies by email.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 CNY per free, is free to download, and has in-app purchases available. A 10-day trial is also offered. The iBar年度订阅（一年） plan costs 18.00 CNY per year, billed 一年. The free option suits readers who want to start without a subscription; the annual plan is for those who want to continue with the paid option. The plan details do not distinguish their feature sets, so there is no basis to say what functionality the free plan gives up.

Platforms

iBar is for Mac only. The App Store listing requires macOS 10.12 or later, and the maker says the app supports both Apple silicon and Intel processors.

Who it's for

Choose iBar if menu bar clutter or notch-obscured icons are persistent annoyances and you want both a folded view and a separate panel for hidden items. It is less compelling if you want software beyond icon organization, or if you are avoiding recurring costs.

Pros and cons

Two reveal modes: Standard folding keeps the bar compact, while the aggregation panel can expose icons hidden by a notch.
Temporary access: Bringing an icon back to operate its app menu, then hiding it after an optional delay, avoids permanently expanding the menu bar.
Recurring price: The annual subscription is a continuing cost for a focused utility, so readers should compare it with free alternatives.
Mac-only: It is not an option for users who need a menu bar organizer on another platform.

Alternatives

Menu Bar Customization Software is the broader category to compare before choosing a utility.

Octobar is another freemium Mac option: its free plan allows up to five active modules, while its 4.99 USD per once Pro plan offers unlimited active modules and submenu groups.

Overhang is a free Mac alternative for users on macOS 14 Sonoma or later; it is a universal binary for Apple silicon and Intel.

Vanilla is a freemium Mac alternative whose free plan hides menu bar icons.

Bartender suits readers considering a paid Mac product, with a 19.99 USD per year Pro subscription or a 24.99 USD per once Bartender 7 plan.

Pelmet is a free option for readers using macOS 27.

SaneBar is a free, fully open-source Mac alternative under the MIT License.

Thaw is a free Mac option with no purchase, subscription, or upgrade fee for new macOS versions.

Cornice is a free alternative for Apple silicon users on macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later.

Verdict

iBar is a sensible choice for Mac users who want flexible control over hidden menu bar icons, especially when a notch makes some of them hard to reach. Its aggregation panel and temporary icon access are the strongest reasons to choose it; readers who want a free solution or broader capabilities should compare the alternatives first.
