In their own words
IBM Db2
IBM Db2 is a database for low-latency transactions, real-time analytics, and mission-critical workloads. It supports transactional, analytical, and operational work on the same database and can feed Db2 Warehouse and watsonx.data. AI-powered query optimization uses historical query patterns to adjust execution plans and automate tuning. Db2 12.1.2.0 adds a VECTOR type and SQL vector-distance queries for semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation, and recommendation systems. Db2 pureScale supports continuous availability on premises or in the cloud, with Pacemaker integration. Security features include access controls, encryption in transit and at rest, behavior monitoring, and data masking. IBM documents integrations with DataStage, Segment, Cognos Analytics, Looker, Tableau, Excel, SPSS Statistics, SAS, and R. Supported deployments include self-hosting and Amazon RDS for Db2. Free plans are available; Performance is listed at $630 a month, billed hourly.
OpenEverest
OpenEverest is a free, open-source platform for provisioning and managing databases, storage, and LLMs on Kubernetes. Teams can create database instances through the UI, API, or CLI, choosing topologies, versions, and presets. The listed workloads include MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Microsoft SQL Server, TiDB, and Valkey; its FAQ also names Apache Cassandra and KServe. Users can scale by adding nodes, shards, or replicas and adjusting CPU, memory, and storage. The platform supports scheduled backups to S3-compatible storage, point-in-time recovery, and cloning an instance from a backup. It can send metrics to an existing observability stack without requiring a particular monitoring tool. Built-in protections include TLS, generated credentials, and role-based access control. A guided interface covers storage classes, pod scheduling, external access, and database engine parameters. OpenEverest can run on Kubernetes in public or private clouds, on bare metal, or on-premises. Its components are available under Apache 2.0. Version 1 is current; version 2 is a developer preview that is not feature-complete or intended for production.
