In their own words
IBM Db2
IBM Db2 is a database for low-latency transactions, real-time analytics, and mission-critical workloads. It supports transactional, analytical, and operational work on the same database and can feed Db2 Warehouse and watsonx.data. AI-powered query optimization uses historical query patterns to adjust execution plans and automate tuning. Db2 12.1.2.0 adds a VECTOR type and SQL vector-distance queries for semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation, and recommendation systems. Db2 pureScale supports continuous availability on premises or in the cloud, with Pacemaker integration. Security features include access controls, encryption in transit and at rest, behavior monitoring, and data masking. IBM documents integrations with DataStage, Segment, Cognos Analytics, Looker, Tableau, Excel, SPSS Statistics, SAS, and R. Supported deployments include self-hosting and Amazon RDS for Db2. Free plans are available; Performance is listed at $630 a month, billed hourly.
Trusted Postgres Architect
Trusted Postgres Architect (TPA) is a free, Ansible-based tool for deploying and managing Postgres clusters using EDB recommendations. Users describe cluster topology and configuration in declarative YAML. TPA can provision AWS EC2 instances and Docker containers, or use existing servers and virtual machines when connection details are supplied. It installs and configures Postgres and related components, including replication and backups; architecture-dependent components can include PGD, Barman, PgBouncer, repmgr, and Postgres extensions. TPA can run tests specific to the cluster architecture and platform, apply configuration changes, perform switchovers, and carry out documented zero-downtime minor-version upgrades. Its configuration documentation lists PostgreSQL, EDB Postgres Extended, and EDB Postgres Advanced Server versions 13 through 18. The tool supports self-hosted Linux deployments and offers STIG and CIS configuration options, though these do not guarantee that a cluster meets those standards. TPA does not support major-version Postgres upgrades through the `tpaexec upgrade` command. Users can extend it with custom Ansible commands, tests, and deployment hook scripts.
