Overview

Infisical centralizes application credentials for syncing, rotation, and auditing across environments and workloads. Fine-grained role-based access can be scoped by environment, path, and identity, which helps teams apply narrower permissions than a shared, broad-access model. The platform also covers private certificate authorities and privileged sessions, making it a stronger fit for organizations seeking a common control plane than for those that only need a place to store application secrets.

Teams can use Infisical Cloud or self-host it on their own infrastructure. Its integrations include AWS, Azure Key Vault, GitHub, GitLab, CircleCI, Datadog, OpenAI, PostgreSQL, and Vercel. Infisical says sensitive data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, supports external KMS and HSM integrations, and undergoes penetration tests and vulnerability assessments twice a year; it describes a recent full-coverage test by Cure53.

Key features

Secrets and access

Scheduled rotation and on-demand dynamic secrets provide alternatives to keeping credentials valid indefinitely. Centralized syncing and audit logs are useful when workloads span multiple environments, while the scope controls help separate access by identity, path, or environment. The free Secrets Management plan includes 5 identities, unlimited projects, and 100+ integrations, a substantial starting point for small deployments, though the identity allowance is a real boundary.

Certificates and privileged access

Certificate Management automates issuance, renewal, and revocation for private certificate authorities. Its free plan is limited to 1 CA and 10 active certificates, each with up to 5 SANs, and excludes wildcard SANs. Those limits can make it a practical entry point for a small certificate footprint, but not a fit for broad wildcard use or a larger active estate.

Privileged Access offers short-lived, identity-based sessions with auditing across infrastructure, databases, and sensitive systems. The Pro plan covers up to 50 resources and includes audit logs and session recording retained for 30 days. Agent Proxy is aimed at AI-agent workflows: the proxy attaches real secrets while the agent sees placeholders, and requests are logged.

Pricing

Infisical uses a freemium model. Secrets Management Free is free, billed forever, and includes 5 identities, unlimited projects, and 100+ integrations. Certificate Management Free costs 0.00 USD per month, with 1 CA, up to 10 active certificates, up to 5 SANs per certificate, and no wildcard SANs. These free tiers suit small deployments, but the certificate caps may rule them out for teams with larger or wildcard-heavy needs.

Privileged Access Pro costs 2.00 USD per month and supports up to 50 resources, with audit logs and session recording retained for 30 days. It is the lower-cost route for teams whose need is bounded privileged access rather than the broader paid secrets plans.

Secrets Management Pro is shown at $20 and $23 per identity/month, billed annually; it includes unlimited identities, 6 environments per project, and 25 secret syncs. Advanced is shown at $40 and $46 per identity/month, also billed annually, and raises the allowance to 12 environments per project and 50 secret syncs. The added environments and sync capacity make Advanced the more suitable tier for larger or more varied workflows, while Pro offers a lower entry point with tighter per-project limits. Paid plans include a free trial with no credit card required.

Secrets Management Enterprise, Certificate Management Enterprise, and Privileged Access Enterprise use custom pricing and are billed annually. Secrets Enterprise adds custom audit-log retention and rate limits, a 99.99% SLA, and self-hosting or dedicated infrastructure. Certificate Enterprise provides unlimited CAs, certificates, and SANs, plus FIPS and dedicated infrastructure. Privileged Access Enterprise removes the resource limit, allows custom log and session retention, and includes Windows and RDP resources. These tiers are for organizations whose scale, infrastructure, or retention needs exceed the lower plans.

Platforms

Infisical supports API, Linux, self-hosted, web, and Windows. The choice of Infisical Cloud or self-hosting lets organizations select hosted service or operation on their own infrastructure.

Who it's for

Infisical is a strong fit for teams that need secrets, certificate lifecycle management, and privileged access in one platform, particularly when fine-grained access controls and self-hosting matter. Teams focused only on basic secret storage may find that breadth unnecessary. Small certificate deployments can start free, but wildcard requirements or more than 10 active certificates point beyond that tier; teams should also weigh the identity-based pricing and environment and sync limits on paid Secrets Management plans.

Pros and cons

Pro: Secrets, certificates, and privileged sessions sit in one platform, reducing the need to choose separate tools for those distinct controls.
Pro: Self-hosting and Infisical Cloud give organizations a choice of deployment model.
Pro: Fine-grained role-based access, scheduled rotation, dynamic credentials, and auditing address both credential lifecycle and access oversight.
Con: The free certificate tier excludes wildcard SANs and stops at 10 active certificates, limiting its usefulness for larger certificate estates.
Con: Paid Secrets Management pricing is per identity and the plans cap environments per project and secret syncs, so costs and fit depend on team and workflow scale.

Alternatives

Secrets Management Tools is the broader category directory for comparing options. Phase offers a free plan for up to 5 users or service accounts, 3 apps, and 3 environments, with OAuth SSO and AI agent integration; consider it when those stated limits match the project. dotenvx is free and open source, with a CLI, SDKs, and encrypted secrets; it is an alternative for readers prioritizing that model. KeyEnv has a free plan for up to 3 projects and 100 secrets per environment, with CLI access and end-to-end encryption, making it an option for smaller project counts. Doppler offers a Developer plan free for 3 users, with 5 config syncs and 3 days of access; it may suit a small team evaluating those limits. Keyway is another freemium option. Kubermatic Kubernetes Platform offers a free, open-source Community Edition under Apache License 2.0. SikkerKey has a free Developer plan with 10 machines, one month of audit retention, and 20 webhook deliveries per day. Stashbase is a freemium alternative.

Verdict

Choose Infisical if your team wants secrets management alongside certificate automation and audited privileged access, especially when self-hosting or scoped access controls are important. Its broad coverage is the main reason to choose it; the main reasons to look elsewhere are a need for wildcard certificates on the free tier, a simpler secrets-only requirement, or a poor fit with identity-based pricing and plan quotas.
