Overview

ServiceM8 brings job management and field-team coordination into one service, with invoicing, customer access and recurring-job support alongside staff tools. The maker is based in Darwin, Australia, and says contractors worldwide use the product to manage more than $50 billion in jobs.

Offline mode is a practical advantage for crews working where connectivity is unreliable. The free plan offers a way to start, but its one-user and 30-job monthly caps make it a narrow fit for a solo operator with modest volume rather than a growing team.

Key features

Managers can track staff locations and job progress, communicate through team messaging, and use activity feeds and timesheets to follow work. Route optimization and recurring jobs support day-to-day scheduling, though the job quotas on lower paid plans still constrain how much work a business can run through the system.

Customer-facing tools include a portal, invoicing and card payments on site or online, including Tap to Pay on iPhone. Connections to Xero, QuickBooks Online and MYOB make it a stronger fit for firms already using those accounting systems. Mailchimp, Deputy, n8n, Zapier, add-ons and a REST API extend the integrations beyond accounting.

Two-step authentication and a 90-day account activity log provide account-security safeguards. Paid plans include 24/7 chat and email support; help videos and partners are also support options.

Pricing

ServiceM8 is freemium, with a 14-day trial and paid plans from $29 per month. Prices are in AUD and include GST, and the homepage says there are no hidden fees or contracts. The plan figures below are stated in USD, so check the applicable price before committing.

Plan	Price	Included limits	Best fit
Free	Free	1 user, 30 jobs per month, 10c per SMS, 10 AI uses per day	A solo operator testing a low-volume workflow.
Starter	29.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 50 jobs per month, 100+ SMS per month, unlimited AI uses per day	A small team that needs more than one seat but remains below 50 jobs monthly.
Growing	79.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 150 jobs per month, 300+ SMS per month, unlimited AI uses per day	A busier team whose workload fits within 150 jobs.
Premium	149.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 500 jobs per month, 1000+ SMS per month, unlimited AI uses per day	A higher-volume operation needing room for up to 500 jobs.
Premium Plus	349.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 1500+ jobs per month, 3000+ SMS per month, unlimited AI uses per day	A large operation handling at least 1,500 jobs monthly.

The free tier's SMS charge and tight job cap matter even before adding staff. Starter removes the user ceiling, but gives up capacity compared with higher tiers; moving up primarily buys more monthly jobs and SMS. Paid plans have unlimited users, so businesses should choose by workload rather than crew size.

Platforms

ServiceM8 runs on Android, iOS and macOS. Its mobile apps cover both major mobile platforms, while the separate ServiceM8 Desktop app is available for Mac or PC. Offline support favors field crews who cannot count on a continuous connection.

Who it's for

ServiceM8 is a sound match for contractors managing recurring visits, field staff and customer payments in one workflow, especially when offline access or Xero, QuickBooks Online or MYOB integration matters. The free tier can suit a solo business with up to 30 jobs a month. A larger team can use paid plans without per-user limits, but firms with job volumes above the chosen tier's cap will need the higher plan.

It is less compelling for businesses that need generous capacity at the lowest tier: Starter includes just 50 jobs monthly despite unlimited users. Teams that do not need the bundled field-service workflow may find that they are paying for capacity and coordination tools they will not use.

Pros and cons

Pros: Offline support helps field teams keep working when connectivity drops.
Pros: Unlimited users on every paid plan avoids a per-seat ceiling as the crew grows.
Pros: Invoicing, card payments, customer portal and established accounting integrations bring key customer and finance tasks together.
Cons: The free plan is restricted to one user and 30 jobs per month, with a 10c per SMS charge.
Cons: Starter's 50-job monthly cap may be restrictive for a team that has outgrown the free tier.
Cons: The price figures are presented in USD while the stated pricing currency is AUD including GST, so buyers should confirm the amount that applies to them.

Alternatives

Salesforce Field Service is worth considering for buyers seeking AI-powered scheduling and route optimization, but it has no free plan and its Dispatcher plan is $175.00 USD per month billed annually.

ReachOut Suite may suit a reader who wants a free entry point with 25 jobs and limited work-order, inspection and invoicing features. Spoors is another freemium option, with a free plan offering 1,000 tasks per month and a $12.00 USD monthly Basic plan.

Joblogic starts at £45.00 GBP per month billed annually for its Standard plan, making it an option to compare if customer and site management, asset management, job costing, quotes and invoicing are priorities. Odyssee Field Service has an Essential plan at €35.00 EUR per user per month and requires at least three users.

Tradify is a paid alternative with a Lite plan at $47.00 USD per user per month that includes job management, scheduling with Google Calendar sync, quoting and invoicing. Acumatica Field Service uses custom pricing based on applications, expected usage, resources and deployment preferences. ServiceMax is another paid field-service option.

Verdict

ServiceM8 is a strong choice for contractors who want job, team, payment and customer tools together, particularly when mobile offline work and accounting integrations are priorities. Its unlimited-user paid plans suit growing crews, but the job caps mean high-volume businesses should budget for a more expensive tier; solo businesses can start free only if one seat and 30 monthly jobs are enough.
