In their own words
IntactFile
IntactFile repairs corrupted videos, PDFs, ZIP, RAR and 7z archives, Office documents, JPG and PNG photos, and SQLite databases in a browser tab. Its repair engines rebuild damaged file structures around data that remains, such as indexes or headers, and run on the user's device; the maker says files are not uploaded. Diagnosis is free for each file, so users can see the problem before choosing a repair. Repairs are checked against format rules, and failed repairs are not charged. The Free plan allows 3 repairs per day, with video files up to 50 MB and documents, archives, and photos up to 10 MB. Paid choices include a single repair for €5.90 per once, credit packs, and annual plans: Pro is €4.92 per year and Business is €16.58 per year. Business adds CLI, SDK, and MCP server access; developer repairs require an active Business subscription and Node 22 or later. IntactFile cannot recover overwritten data, video never written to disk, or files containing only zero bytes.
Untrunc
Untrunc repairs corrupted or truncated MPEG-4 video files by using a healthy reference clip to rebuild missing or damaged index metadata. It supports MP4, MOV, M4V, and 3GP containers, and leaves raw media data unmodified rather than re-encoding it. The reference must come from the same camera and use the same recording settings as the damaged file. Repairs run offline on local files, with no video uploads or telemetry. There is no file-size limit; streaming mode can handle files larger than available RAM. Windows downloads include a graphical interface and a command-line tool, while other platforms have a command-line workflow. The site describes support for GoPro footage and Sony XAVC, with the anthwlock fork adding compatibility and performance improvements. Optional stretch mode can adjust audio duration to match recovered video. Untrunc is free for personal and commercial use under GPL-2.0. It cannot repair empty files, corrupted raw video data, or non-MPEG-4 containers such as AVI and MKV.
