In their own words

Itinica

Itinica is an AI-powered travel planning platform for creating and organizing trip itineraries. Users describe a trip in plain English, and AI generates plans with hotels, restaurants, activities, and attractions. An AI chat assistant can recommend places based on group preferences. Plans are arranged into day-by-day schedules with routes and timing; Pro adds automatic route optimization and smart scheduling suggestions. Interactive maps show destinations, distances, and daily routes. Trips support unlimited collaborators who can contribute ideas, comment, vote, and stay synchronized in real time. Users can organize options into custom decks, and guests can view a shared trip through a link without an account. Trips are private by default, with controls for viewing, editing, or browsing. Itinica says it does not sell user data or share it with third parties. Users can paste links from booking sites, Google Maps, or travel websites, and Itinica fetches images and details from most URLs. It does not automatically import existing trip plans, and reservations must still be made through booking sites. Free includes one AI trip generation and five AI chat messages monthly; Pro is $14.99 a month.

TREK

TREK is a self-hosted travel planner for organizing trips collaboratively in real time. Users can arrange places by day, optimize routes by distance, and send a day to Google Maps for turn-by-turn directions. Collaborators can edit itineraries together, see live presence, chat, run polls, track attendance, and share read-only public links. Reservation records hold confirmation numbers, files, and statuses for flights, stays, and restaurants. Budgets support multiple currencies and per-person or per-day totals; packing lists include templates and item assignments. OpenStreetMap is the default place search, Google Places is optional, and 16-day forecasts use Open-Meteo without API keys. Optional addons include travel statistics, vacation planning, journaling, and MCP integration. TREK runs on operator-controlled hardware, stores trip data in a SQLite file, and supports scheduled snapshots with retention policies. It can be installed as a PWA and has deployment documentation for Docker, Kubernetes, Unraid, Proxmox, Raspberry Pi, and Apple Silicon, with AMD64 and ARM64 images. It is open source under AGPL-3.0 and free for personal and internal company use.
