In their own words
JEB
JEB is a reverse-engineering platform for disassembly, decompilation, debugging, and analysis of code and document files. Its Android tools support static and dynamic app analysis, including multi-dex decompilation, resource reconstruction, and debugging of Dalvik and native code. Other modules address Intel x86 and x86-64, ARM, MIPS, RISC-V, WebAssembly, Ethereum contracts, Siemens S7 PLC programs, and PDF documents. Python or Java scripts and plugins can automate analysis, including through headless front ends. The GUI runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS for x64 and arm64 systems and requires JDK 21 or above. JEB Community Edition is free and described as suitable for researchers, students, hobbyists, and nonprofit reverse engineers; its listed plan covers x86 and x86-64 decompilation. The separate demo restricts decompilation, disables project saving and loading and clipboard use, limits session time, and requires an internet connection. Paid plans include Android modules from $140 per user per month and JEB Pro from $2,000 per user per year. PNF Software was founded in 2013 and is based in Silicon Valley, California.
RetDec
RetDec is a free machine-code decompiler based on LLVM that reconstructs functions, types, and higher-level constructs as C or a Python-like language. It supports ELF, PE, Mach-O, COFF, AR archives, Intel HEX, and raw machine code, plus 32-bit Intel x86, ARM, MIPS, PIC32, and PowerPC, and 64-bit x86-64 and ARM64. Analysis includes static executable inspection, compiler and packer detection, and loading and instruction decoding. RetDec can use DWARF and PDB debugging information, reconstruct C++ class hierarchies from RTTI and vtables, and demangle GCC, MSVC, and Borland symbols. An integrated disassembler can generate call graphs, control-flow graphs, and statistics. It can be downloaded as a pre-built package, built from source, or run in Docker; related repositories provide IDA and Radare2 plugins. The project lists Windows 7 or later, Linux, and macOS, with experimental FreeBSD support. Installation requires about 5 to 6 GB of free disk space. The project says development is very limited, with issue responses potentially delayed up to one quarter.
