In their own words
JPlag
JPlag is free, open-source software for finding pairwise similarities among submitted programs. It examines program syntax and structure to help detect source-code plagiarism and collusion, especially in student programming exercises, and can also identify duplicated or stolen software parts. It does not compare submissions with the internet. Supported inputs include Java, C, C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, Kotlin, R, Rust, Swift, Scala, LLVM IR, Scheme, EMF, SCXML, text, and multi-language projects. JPlag runs locally, with the project stating that source code and plagiarism results are not sent externally. You can use its command-line interface, Java API, or Maven Central dependency. A bundled report viewer opens generated or existing reports. Base-code directories can exclude shared starter code, while matching-token sensitivity is adjustable. The default report lists up to 2500 comparison pairs, configurable with -n. Running or building it requires Java SE 25.
PrePostSEO Plagiarism Checker
PrePostSEO Plagiarism Checker examines submitted writing for copied or duplicate content and reports plagiarism and unique-content percentages, along with URLs for matched sources. It compares text with online sources using different search engines and says it can identify incremental, patchwork, and accidental plagiarism. Users can paste text or upload.doc,.docx,.pdf, and.txt files, then download reports in HTML or PDF. The checker supports multiple languages, with French, Dutch, and Spanish among the examples. Results link to paraphrasing, sentence rewriting, and citation-generation tools. The maker offers API integration for websites or online platforms and lists a WordPress plugin. Android and iOS apps and Windows and Mac applications are listed. Visitors and registered basic users can check a limited amount for free; the maker describes free users as receiving 500 search queries per month. Paid checker plans start at $5.25 per month when billed annually. The privacy policy says submitted text and files are removed after processing and are not saved or shared with third parties.
