In their own words
Karakeep
Karakeep saves links, notes and images, then applies AI tags to help people retrieve them. Search includes full-text, keyword, hybrid and semantic options; OCR can make text in images and screenshots searchable. Saved articles open in a reader view with highlighting, and mobile apps support offline reading. Users can make rules to organize bookmarks, subscribe to RSS feeds and publish lists as feeds. Shared lists can give friends or teammates editor or viewer access. For AI assistant access, Karakeep offers agentic skills, a first-party MCP server, a CLI and an API with scoped permissions and markdown content. The open-source app can be self-hosted with Docker, with unlimited bookmarks and storage on its free self-hosted plan. The free cloud plan includes 10 bookmarks and 20MB storage. Pro costs $4 a month and includes 50,000 bookmarks and 50GB storage. Platforms include Android, iOS, macOS, web, API, browser extension and self-hosted use. The cloud privacy policy says primary data is stored in Europe and personal data is not sold.
LinkAce
LinkAce is a self-hosted web application for saving, organizing and sharing web links. Users can apply tags, create custom lists, then search, filter and sort links by properties such as URL and creation date. LinkAce regularly checks saved sites and can notify users when a site is unavailable or has moved. When a link is saved, it also asks the Internet Archive Wayback Machine to archive the site. A browser bookmarklet opens a form to capture the website being viewed. The application supports multiple users and single sign-on through OAuth or OIDC, alongside a REST API and Zapier integration. Guest access can expose links, tags and lists that are not marked private, according to each item’s visibility. Deployment options include Docker, Kubernetes Helm, cloud deployment and manual PHP setup; supported databases include SQLite, MySQL/MariaDB and PostgreSQL. The self-hosted version is free and open source. Managed hosting is €4.00 per month, paid annually, with unlimited links, lists, tags and users under a fair-use traffic policy.
