In their own words
KeyBlaze
KeyBlaze is a typing tutor for touch typing, speed typing and 10-key numeric keypad practice. Its lessons cover home and neighboring keys, capitalization, punctuation and numbers, with drills, prose, poetry and exercises focused on difficult keys. Audio dictation provides transcription practice, while typing games offer another kind of exercise. KeyBlaze measures net and gross words per minute, supports tests at different durations and lets learners set speed goals. Users can import their own lessons, drills and speed tests or focus practice on troublesome words and characters. Keyboard highlighting indicates finger placement, and the software can print course completion certificates. KeyBlaze runs on macOS and Windows and is described by its maker as suitable for all skill levels. For classroom review, results can be saved to a network folder; that folder must be configured separately on each computer. The free version costs nothing, while additional lessons, professional exercises and custom features require an upgrade. The Plus Home license is restricted to non-business use.
Touch Typer
Touch Typer is a desktop typing tutor for practicing typing and tracking progress on Linux, macOS, and Windows. Its free plan includes typing tests, statistics, streaks, multiple layouts, and real-time duels. Duels last 60 seconds and show words per minute, accuracy, and errors; friends can join through a shareable link without an account. Analytics track WPM and accuracy over time, per-key heatmaps, goals, and milestones, synced across devices. Users can practice with QWERTY, Dvorak, or Colemak, and drills adapt to the selected layout. Code Mode includes TypeScript, Python, Rust, Go, and 40+ other languages, with syntax highlighting and indentation. Premium's AI Coach uses the last 30 days of practice to create drills for weak keys and explain stalled progress. The free plan can be used without an account. Premium is $2.99 a month, or $2.39/mo billed yearly, and includes a seven-day trial. The privacy policy says the service stores account and typing data, among other information, and provides account deletion and data export by email.
