Overview

PocketSmith brings budgeting, bill tracking, net-worth monitoring and reporting together with automatic bank feeds and calendar-based forecasting. The New Zealand maker says it has been building the product since 2008 and describes itself as an independent team. Feeds are read-only, so they can import account data but cannot move money. International accounts, assets and liabilities can be tracked with daily currency conversions.

Automatic imports and categorization cover over 14,000 banks and institutions worldwide; PocketSmith also describes live feeds from over 12,000 institutions. Its feed providers include Yodlee, Plaid, Salt Edge, Akahu, Basiq and Mastercard. Manual imports provide another route for bringing in data.

Key features

Budgets and forecasts

A budget calendar, flexible budget periods and what-if scenarios make the product useful for planning as well as tracking. Forecasts project daily account balances, with the available horizon scaling from six months on Free to 10 years on Foundation, 30 on Flourish and up to 60 on Fortune. That makes Fortune the clearest fit for users who need decades-long projections; shorter-term planners can avoid paying for that reach.

Reporting, dashboards and files

Reports cover income and expenses, net worth and automatically updated cashflow statements. Custom dashboards can combine accounts, transactions and budgets, while the file browser lets users upload, preview, rename, describe and download financial documents. The PocketSmith MCP server connects compatible AI assistants to financial data, and the API is free and unrestricted, with developer keys and OAuth 2 for apps.

Security and support

PocketSmith says connections are encrypted, stored data is encrypted at rest, and passwords use bcrypt hashing. Two-factor authentication is available on every plan, including Free; the maker also says it runs no ads or ad-tracking. Foundation and Flourish include email support, while Fortune adds priority email support. A 14-day money back guarantee offers a short window to reconsider.

Pricing

PocketSmith uses a freemium model. The free plan is designed for casual budgeters and includes automatic bank feeds, manual imports, two dashboards, 12 budgets, two accounts and six months of projections. Its account and dashboard caps may be restrictive for users consolidating several financial relationships.

Plan	Price	Key allowances
Free	Free	2 accounts, 2 dashboards, 12 budgets, 6 months' projection
Foundation	9.99 USD per month billed annually; $14.95 billed monthly	6 connected banks from 1 country, 6 dashboards, 10 years' projection, unlimited accounts
Flourish	16.66 USD per month billed annually; $24.95 billed monthly	18 connected banks from all countries, 18 dashboards, 30 years' projection, unlimited accounts
Fortune	26.66 USD per month billed annually; $39.95 billed monthly	Unlimited connected banks from all countries, unlimited dashboards, 60 years' projection, unlimited accounts

Foundation is the entry paid tier for people who need unlimited accounts and a decade of forecasting, but its six connected banks are limited to one country. Flourish is better suited to households with international connections or a need for a longer projection, raising both bank and dashboard allowances. Fortune is for users who need unrestricted bank connections and the full 60-year horizon, with priority email support. The annual prices are stated per month, and each paid plan also has a higher monthly-billed price shown above; the listed annual-billing savings are 33%.

Platforms

PocketSmith supports Android, iOS, web, API, Linux, macOS and Windows. Desktop apps are beta releases for macOS 11 or newer, Windows 10 and 11, and Debian-based Linux distributions. The service also offers mobile and desktop apps.

Who it's for

PocketSmith is a strong match for people who want budgeting tied to forward cashflow projections, or who need to track accounts and assets across currencies. The free plan can serve a casual budgeter with only a couple of accounts; users with more accounts, longer planning horizons or international bank feeds will need a paid tier. It is less compelling for someone who only wants a basic spending log and has no use for its forecasting and reporting breadth.

Pros and cons

Pros: Daily-balance forecasts extend as far as 60 years on Fortune, giving long-term planners an unusually broad horizon.
Pros: Multi-currency tracking, daily conversions and bank feeds across thousands of institutions support users with finances in multiple countries.
Pros: Free access includes two-factor authentication, and read-only feeds cannot transfer funds.
Cons: Free is capped at two accounts and two dashboards, so users with more complex finances may outgrow it quickly.
Cons: Connected-bank limits vary substantially by tier, and Foundation restricts connections to one country.
Cons: Desktop apps are beta releases, which may matter to users who prefer a mature desktop client.

Verdict

Choose PocketSmith if you want budgeting and account tracking tied to long-range daily balance forecasts, particularly across currencies. Its free plan is useful for a small setup, while paid plans unlock the bank connections and projection horizons that make it distinctive. Look elsewhere if your needs are limited to straightforward expense tracking or you want to avoid plan-dependent bank limits.
