Overview

Outerbase AI is a database workspace for engineers, researchers and analysts who want to ask questions in plain language and turn results into charts or dashboards. Its appeal is the combination of schema-aware query help and visual reporting; its constrained entry tiers and Enterprise-only self-hosting narrow the fit for some teams.

EZQL can use the current database structure to shape its answers, while the AI editor can draft, repair and optimize queries. Connections span transactional databases and analytical warehouses, but access to all database types starts at Pro.

Key features

From questions to visual answers

EZQL generates queries, charts and dashboards from natural-language requests. Because it has schema context, it can account for the database’s current structure rather than working from a question alone. The editor’s ability to fix broken queries and optimize results also gives experienced users a way to refine existing work, not just generate a first draft.

Charts can be created from datasets or within AI conversations, making the jump from query to visualization part of the same workflow. Trend detection and explanation is coming soon, so it is not a reason to choose the product today.

Connections, security and deployment

Outerbase connects to Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, Google BigQuery and Amazon Redshift, with integrations for DigitalOcean, Neon, Turso and Cloudflare. That range supports teams working across several database ecosystems, although Free and Hobby are limited to transactional databases.

Outerbase says it is SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA compliant. Controls include two-factor authentication, database-role access controls, AES/RSA encryption, SSH tunneling and private AI models that are not trained on customer data. Customer data stays in the customer’s database; Outerbase stores an encrypted schema copy for AI features. The service has web, API and desktop platforms, with Mac downloads for M1-or-newer devices and Windows downloads for modern devices. Self-hosting is reserved for Enterprise, so teams requiring that deployment option must look beyond the lower tiers.

Pricing

Outerbase uses a freemium model. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and allows up to 5 users, 1 base, 10 EZQL queries per month, 3 saved queries and 1 dashboard, with transactional databases only. It is useful for a small evaluation or light personal workload, but the query and dashboard caps make sustained team use difficult.

Hobby costs 9.00 USD per month, billed per user per month annually. It supports up to 10 users, unlimited bases, 100 EZQL queries per month, 25 saved queries and 5 dashboards, still with transactional databases only. The larger team and workspace allowances suit modest shared use, but the monthly query ceiling and database restriction remain meaningful constraints.

Pro costs 30.00 USD per month, billed per user per month annually. It includes unlimited users, bases, saved queries and dashboards, up to 1000 EZQL queries, and all databases. This is the tier for teams that need warehouse connections and room to grow beyond Hobby’s caps, though its per-user annual billing makes team size relevant to the total cost.

Enterprise has custom pricing. It adds HIPAA and SOC 2 compliance, priority support with a dedicated team, custom AI models, prompt fine-tuning, private cloud deployments, and audit trails and activity logs. It is the relevant choice for organizations needing those controls or self-hosting; the available plan details do not provide a seat count or query quota to compare against Pro.

Platforms

Outerbase is available on the web and through an API, with desktop apps for qualifying Mac and Windows devices. Self-hosted deployment is available only to Enterprise customers. That makes the lower tiers a hosted-service choice rather than an option for teams that need to run the product themselves.

Who it's for

Outerbase is a strong fit for database users who want query generation, correction and optimization alongside chart and dashboard creation. Free can serve a small trial workload; Hobby suits limited transactional-database collaboration; Pro is the clearest match for teams needing all supported database types and uncapped saved content. Teams that require self-hosting or Enterprise-level controls should assess Enterprise, while users needing substantially more than 1000 monthly EZQL queries should account for that Pro ceiling.

Pros and cons

Pros: Schema-aware EZQL, query repair and optimization bring useful context to natural-language database work.
Pros: Query results can become charts and dashboards without separating those tasks into another product workflow.
Pros: Support for nine named database systems, plus four provider integrations, gives teams a broad set of connection options.
Cons: Free’s 10 monthly EZQL queries and single-dashboard limit make it a narrow ongoing plan.
Cons: Hobby remains restricted to transactional databases and 100 EZQL queries per month, so analytical database users need Pro.
Cons: Pro caps EZQL use at 1000 queries, while self-hosting is an Enterprise-only option with custom pricing.

Alternatives

For a wider shortlist, see AI SQL Generators and AI Database Assistants.

Text2SQL.ai is a paid alternative with a free trial and API access; its Pro Plan includes 100 API requests per month, with additional requests at $0.05 each. Consider it when that API request model better suits the workload.
Wren AI offers a free plan and trial across API, self-hosted and web platforms. Its open-source context engine is free for individual developers and used through CLI and MCP without a UI, making it a different fit for developers seeking that workflow.
QueryPlane has a free plan at 0.00 USD per free for up to 3 apps, 1 database connection and 50 AI prompts per month. It may suit a small workload where those caps are sufficient.
NatureQuery has a free plan at 0.00 USD per free, billed $0 forever, with 50 queries per month and 1 database connection. Its free tier may be preferable when a single connection and that query allowance meet the need.
SQL Mocker offers a web-only free Explore plan at 0.00 USD per free with 1 user, 50 total AI queries and 5 saved projects. It is an option for an individual who wants a limited project-based free tier.
SQLAI.ai is paid with a free trial and API and web platforms; its Hobby plan is 4.00 USD per month for 50 queries. Choose it when a lower stated monthly price and smaller query allowance fit better than Outerbase’s broader database workspace.
Chion is a paid web option with a 7-day trial; its Starter plan costs 29.00 USD per month, billed $29/seat/mo, for 50 credits per month and 3 queries per hour. It may suit readers whose usage fits that credit-based allowance.
Basedash offers API, self-hosted and web platforms, with a Startup plan at 1000.00 USD per month plus AI usage for up to 25 users. It is a different option for teams whose platform needs and stated budget align with that plan.

Verdict

Choose Outerbase AI if your team wants schema-aware natural-language query work tied directly to charting and dashboards, especially when Pro’s all-database access fits your needs. Look elsewhere if you need self-hosting without Enterprise custom pricing, or if the Free and Hobby quotas are too restrictive and Pro’s 1000-query ceiling is insufficient.
