| Deployment | The Enterprise plan includes full on-prem deployment in the customer's AWS account. | Workflows can be deployed to production with one command and can react to events. |
| Integrations | Documented integrations include Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Git, Nextflow with Seqera, PyTorch Lightning, Weights & Biases, MLflow, and Vitessce. | Documented integrations include AWS Batch, AWS Step Functions, Kubernetes, Argo Workflows, and Apache Airflow. |
| Intended users | Lamin says LaminDB serves personal R&D projects through pharma-scale enterprise deployments and describes its community as scientists and engineers in academia, biotech, and global pharma. | Metaflow is aimed at data scientists and ML/AI engineers; its documentation says it offers little benefit for small notebook experiments with no scaling, criticality, or complexity needs. |

In their own words
Lamin
LaminDB is Lamin's open-source, format-agnostic lakehouse and programmable memory layer for research and development. It tracks data, code and agent activity across notebooks, scripts and workflows, and provides schema-based records for LIMS and ELN use cases, including ontologies and notes. Users can validate and annotate datasets, then manage changes through branching and versioning data and code. Documented integrations include Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Git, Nextflow with Seqera, PyTorch Lightning, Weights & Biases, MLflow and Vitessce. Read/write storage includes local filesystems, AWS S3, S3-compatible services such as MinIO and Cloudflare R2, and Google Cloud Storage; HTTP/HTTPS and Hugging Face are read-only. Lamin provides web, API and self-hosted options. The Free plan is free for open assets and public database queries, with no hosted database listed. Pro is $20 a month billed annually. Team and Enterprise are each $200 a month billed annually per seat; Enterprise includes full on-prem deployment in the customer's AWS account. Lamin says it is SOC 2 certified and encrypts Lamin-managed deployments in transit and at rest. The maker was founded in 2022 and is headquartered in Munich and New York City.
Metaflow
Metaflow is a free, open-source Python library for developing, deploying, and operating data-intensive data science, machine learning, and AI applications. It automatically tracks flows, experiments, and artifacts, and supports local workflow construction and testing. For larger workloads, it can use compute in a customer’s cloud account or Kubernetes clusters. Documented integrations include AWS Batch, AWS Step Functions, Kubernetes, Argo Workflows, and Apache Airflow. Deployments can use AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, or on-premises clusters; artifact storage options include AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage. The Python package runs on macOS and Linux, while Metaflow Sandbox offers free browser access to cloud and Kubernetes stacks. The project is licensed under Apache License 2.0, and its own-cloud model can use existing infrastructure and security policies. A local-only setup does not support external compute scaling or production-grade deployments. Metaflow is aimed at data scientists and ML or AI engineers; its documentation says it offers little benefit for small notebook experiments without scaling, criticality, or complexity needs.
