Overview

Chat, calendars, document creation and cloud storage are gathered in a single platform, with integrations including Exchange, Outlook, Google Calendar, Gmail, AnyCross, Lark Developer and Lark Base. That breadth can reduce the need to move between separate tools; teams looking only for a focused chat or calendar product may find more scope than they need.

Meetings allow participants to edit shared Docs inside the call window, a useful way to keep discussion and the work under review together. But Starter supports only one-on-one video meetings, so teams that need group calls must choose a higher plan.

Key features

Automation and extensibility

AnyCross offers drag-and-drop workflow automation, integrations and ready-to-use solutions. Its monthly automation allowance ranges from 1,000 on Starter and Basic to 50,000 on Pro and 500,000 on Enterprise. The higher caps suit teams automating work at scale; Starter and Basic are more constrained for processes that generate many runs.

The App Directory includes third-party tools for collaboration, recruitment, expense control, CRM and ERP. Lark Open Platform supports custom bots, web apps, blocks and more than 2,500 APIs. These are meaningful options for teams with the capacity to connect or extend their tools, rather than a reason by themselves for a team needing only basic communication to choose Lark.

Translation, security and support

Starter includes unlimited real-time translation, a useful inclusion for multilingual teams even at the entry tier. Lark says it uses industry-standard encryption and continuous system monitoring, and that employees do not have access to user data by default. It also says its data compliance systems cover EU GDPR, US CCPA/CPRA, Japan APPI and Singapore PDPA.

Customer terms provide weekday help-desk email support from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Singapore Time, with an intended initial response within one business day. That schedule may be less convenient for teams outside those support hours.

Pricing

Lark uses a freemium model, with a free plan and four named tiers whose prices are custom pricing. Capacity, not a published per-seat price, is the clearest basis for comparing them.

Starter: 20 users, 100 GB of storage, 18 months of message history and 1,000 automations per month. It is aimed at small teams with simple communication needs, but the user cap and one-on-one meetings make it a poor fit once group calls or broader access are required.
Basic: 500 users, 5 TB of storage, unlimited message history and 1,000 automations per month. The larger user and storage allowances, plus unlimited history, address important Starter constraints, but the automation allowance remains the same.
Pro: 500 users, 15 TB of storage, meetings for up to 500 participants and 50,000 automations per month. This is the more suitable tier for organizations needing large meetings or substantially more automation capacity.
Enterprise: Unlimited users, 15 TB plus 30 GB per user, meetings for up to 500 participants and 500,000 automations per month. Lark positions it for large companies with advanced security and organizational management needs.

All tiers give up a known price comparison because they use custom pricing. The Starter ceiling is particularly consequential: 20 users, 100 GB and one-on-one meetings set a low ceiling for growing teams, while Basic increases reach and storage without increasing the automation quota.

Platforms

Lark supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, and also offers an API. That range accommodates teams using mixed desktop and mobile environments.

Who it's for

Lark is best suited to teams that want communication and shared work alongside automation, integrations or developer extensibility, and can select a plan matching their user, storage, meeting and workflow volume. Starter is aimed at small teams with simple communication needs. Large companies seeking advanced security and organizational management are the stated audience for Enterprise. Teams requiring group meetings should skip Starter; teams with modest collaboration needs and no use for automation or extensibility may prefer a narrower tool.

Pros and cons

Pro: Chat, calendars, documents and cloud storage share one platform, and shared Docs can be edited during meetings.
Pro: AnyCross, the App Directory and an Open Platform with more than 2,500 APIs offer several routes to connect and extend workflows.
Pro: Starter includes unlimited real-time translation, while support for six named operating systems and web covers a broad range of devices.
Con: Starter is capped at 20 users and 100 GB, and permits only one-on-one video meetings.
Con: Basic raises the user and storage caps but keeps the 1,000-automation monthly allowance; teams needing more must move to Pro or Enterprise.
Con: Every named plan has custom pricing, making cost comparison difficult before getting a quote.
Con: Email support hours are limited to weekdays in Singapore Time, which may not match every team's working day.

Alternatives

For a dedicated calendar rather than a broad workplace suite, Calendar.com has a free-forever individual plan and a listed Standard plan starting at $20.00 USD per month. Microsoft Outlook Calendar is another calendar-focused option, with a free plan and a one-month trial for Microsoft 365 Personal, Family and Premium. For shared scheduling with a published free tier, Teamup offers five sub-calendars, five users, one custom field and one year of historical data. Cozi is oriented around family calendars, shared grocery and to-do lists, notifications and recipes in its free plan. TimeTree offers free calendar sharing with comments and photos, among other basic calendar functions.

For automated scheduling rather than a full collaboration suite, FlowSavvy has a Basic plan with one scheduling-hours profile, three repeating auto-scheduled tasks, five task lists and a two-week auto-scheduling range. Proton Calendar offers a free plan with three calendars for readers seeking a focused calendar. Reclaim AI has a free Lite plan for one user, with a one-week scheduling range, one Calendar Sync, one Scheduling Link and five AI Agents.

Readers comparing focused tools by category can also browse Calendar apps, Collaborative Document Software, Document Collaboration Software, Knowledge Management Software, No-Code Database Software and Team chat apps.

Verdict

Choose Lark if your team wants communication, shared documents and meetings alongside workflow automation or platform extensibility, and can match its plan caps to the work. Its strongest case is the combination of collaboration and tools for connecting processes; its main reason to look elsewhere is the low Starter ceiling and custom pricing across all named plans.
