In their own words
Lastslate
Lastslate is a screenplay editor for macOS and Windows with an AI collaborator that reads scripts but does not write dialogue. As a writer types, the editor identifies elements such as sluglines, character cues and dialogue, and saves automatically. It supports Final Draft FDX, Fountain, plain text and PDF, and can turn PDF screenplays into editable scenes. The Beat Board links story beats to script scenes and is included on every plan; Pro adds reference images to beats. Built-in tools derive cast lists, location and prop breakdowns, loglines and one-sheets from a script. Browser review links let recipients comment on script lines without an account, while Pro allows up to 10 writers to co-write one script live. Scripts are stored locally by default, and optional cloud backup is encrypted in transit and at rest. AI actions send the relevant excerpt, prompt and session context to the AI provider for that request. The free plan includes the full editor, Beat Board, PDF and FDX export, 10 cloud projects and limited AI collaboration. Pro costs $15 a month; Pro+ costs $45 a month.
Screenplay Assistant
Screenplay Assistant turns plain prose or dictated scenes into screenplay pages in a browser, arranging material into scene headings, action, character cues, dialogue, parentheticals, and transitions. Its writing modes range from formatting that preserves the writer’s words to line editing and adding action and imagery without introducing events, characters, or conversations. Story Map supports planning, Story Lab offers craft guidance, Muse acts as a first reader, and Atticus answers in-app questions. Users can import plain text, PDF, Word, and Final Draft files and export to PDF, Final Draft, Word, or plain text. Other tools include character portraits, design sheets, storyboards, graphic novel pages, scene video, Table Read, and production reports. Writing is not capped on any plan, though project and media allowances vary. It runs on Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows. Spark is free forever and includes one project. Writer costs $7 a month, or $5 a month billed yearly ($60 a year).
