Overview

WriteMail.ai generates new emails from a user's goals or key points, and can draft replies when given a pasted conversation and a reply goal. That covers both blank-page drafting and responses that need thread context. The user retains the final sending step: generated text is prepared for the default email client, not sent directly by WriteMail.ai.

Its use cases include cold outreach, follow-ups, marketing, customer support replies and personal email. The range is broad, but the product's stated role is composing and refining text rather than managing an email campaign or automating replies.

Key features

Purpose-led drafts and replies

Starting from a goal or key points gives users a way to shape a message before writing it. For replies, supplying the conversation and desired outcome can help keep a response tied to the thread. This is useful when the challenge is finding the right wording; it still leaves the user to review the draft and send it from their own email client.

Composition controls

Users can set length, style, tone, mood, emoji use and language. Those options are practical for adapting a draft to different audiences or purposes without relying on one fixed voice. The site advertises generation in more than 30 languages, while its feature information also gives a 10-language support figure; the two claims do not establish that every feature works across the broader language count.

Extensions, assistant and privacy

WriteMail.ai describes a Chrome extension for Gmail and also lists Firefox and Google Workspace Gmail extensions and an Outlook add-in. The Mail Assistant offers real-time suggestions, but only on paid plans, so free users do not get that ongoing assistance.

The service says generated messages do not touch its servers and personalized options are stored in a browser cookie. That may suit users who want browser-based personalization without sending generated messages to the service's servers; it does not change the need to handle email content thoughtfully when pasting a conversation into a drafting workflow.

Pricing

WriteMail.ai uses a freemium model. The Free plan includes five AI emails per month, a small allowance for occasional use rather than routine drafting. Paid monthly plans raise the quota, with higher allowances suited to users who draft more often.

Plan	Price	AI emails	Best fit
Free	Price not listed	5 per month	Occasional drafting
Regular	6.95 USD per month	50 per month	Light regular use
Basic	11.95 USD per month	150 per month	Frequent drafting
Pro	19.95 USD per month	500 per month	High-volume individual use

The paid quotas make the plan choice concrete: Regular may be enough for a few messages each workday, while Basic and Pro provide more room for heavier use. The Free plan's five-message ceiling makes it a limited ongoing option. The pricing note also gives a paid starting point of $5/mo (annual), but the named monthly plans above have their own stated prices; compare the terms that apply to the plan you choose.

Platforms

WriteMail.ai is available on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and the web, as well as through browser extensions. The homepage offers Windows and macOS downloads, including Apple Silicon and Intel versions. This breadth is useful for people who move between devices, though the core workflow still hands the prepared message to the user's email client rather than sending it itself.

Who it's for

Busy professionals, executives, entrepreneurs and teams are among the intended users. It is a sensible fit for someone who writes a mix of first-contact emails, follow-ups and replies and wants to tune each draft's voice. It is less compelling for anyone who needs direct sending, an allowance beyond the paid quotas, or real-time Mail Assistant suggestions without a paid plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: New-message drafting and thread-based reply generation cover two common composition needs.
Pros: Controls for tone, style, length, mood, emoji use and language give users meaningful ways to shape a draft.
Pros: Web, mobile, desktop and extension options accommodate different devices and email workflows.
Cons: Five AI emails per month on Free is a tight limit for recurring work.
Cons: WriteMail.ai prepares content but does not send it, leaving the final action to the user's email client.
Cons: Real-time Mail Assistant suggestions require a paid plan.

Alternatives

Ellie is worth comparing if its free allowance of 10 draft replies per day and one connected email account better match your reply volume.
ForthWrite offers 10 drafts per week on its free plan and lists Gmail and Outlook on the web; consider it if that weekly allowance and browser workflow fit better.
AI Perfect Assistant has a free plan with 10 tokens per month and Microsoft 365, Chrome and Telegram integrations, which may suit someone seeking those integrations.
Jetwriter AI offers 15 regular-model responses per month on its free plan, along with a browser extension and web app; compare it if that free response allowance is a better fit.
Kerna has a free Starter tier with 30,000 tokens, GPT-5.6 and all features for a single user; its token-based allowance may appeal to readers who prefer that model.
MailMaestro limits its free Compose, Reply and Improve use to three per week and includes magic templates and AI knowledge; choose it if those features matter more than WriteMail.ai's larger free monthly count.
Professionally AI Email Writer is a paid product with a 30-day trial for up to 200 emails and cross-platform support, a relevant comparison if a trial period is more useful than a continuing free tier.
GPT for Gmail is another freemium option to consider for Gmail-focused drafting.

Verdict

Choose WriteMail.ai if you want flexible first drafts and thread-aware replies across devices, with enough control to tailor tone and style. The strongest reason to look elsewhere is the constrained free allowance: five monthly AI emails will not stretch far for routine business use, and even paid users still send from their own email client.
