In their own words
Lepton
Lepton is a free desktop code snippet manager that uses GitHub Gist for storage and syncing. It supports unlimited public and secret snippets, unlimited tags, and language groups, plus editing for Markdown and Jupyter Notebook snippets. Search can match filenames, languages, descriptions, tags, IDs, and downloaded snippet contents. Searching all snippet contents globally requires enabling `snippet.downloadAll` before syncing. Lepton supports GitHub Enterprise and lets users sign in with GitHub OAuth or a GitHub personal access token with the `gist` scope. The project says there is no separate sync service: data is stored locally in the app or remotely in GitHub Gist. Packaged builds use Electron safeStorage for cached tokens when available, with a plaintext-file fallback if it is unavailable. Settings in `.leptonrc` include themes, editor options, proxy, shortcuts, notifications, and language. Desktop releases are available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, including AppImage and Snap packages for Linux. The project is MIT-licensed. The free plan costs nothing.
Snippets
Snippets is a note-taking and productivity app that brings notes, tasks, and flashcards into one system. Its rich-text editor supports keyboard shortcuts and toolbar formatting, and content can be exported to Markdown. Collections, dashboards, references, and structured attributes provide ways to organize material. Tasks can be kept with notes, assigned due dates and priorities, and entered in plain language. Flashcards include a progress dashboard and a practice mode that adjusts which cards appear based on ratings. Notes are stored on the user's device by default, and offline access is available. Sync choices include a local folder or GitHub repository; Snippets Cloud is labeled coming soon and uses client-side end-to-end encryption for encrypted content. The Cloud service is in beta, and the privacy policy does not guarantee synced data's availability or preservation. The Free plan offers unlimited workspaces and notes, GitHub sync, and folder sync. Cloud is listed at $12 a year, marked coming soon; Pro is listed at $29 a month, also marked coming soon.
